Underwater Combat Comes To Dungeons & Dragons Online

by Matt Miller on Aug 20, 2010 at 12:25 PM

The latest update to the free-to-play MMO Dungeons & Dragons Online features new adventures, monsters, and locations, including a trek beneath the waves.

This will be the sixth major update for the game, which has been quietly expanding the scope of its content for some time now. The biggest addition to the game this time around is a new area called the Red Fens, a swamp that includes both above and below water sequences. A hidden temple, a village of drow elves, and an assaulting army of froglike sahuagin await.

Incidentally, DDO is also at the tail end of its Summer Bonus Days, a promotion that offers a static 10% bonus on earned XP, as well as numerous discounts on the premium items available for purchase in the DDO store. The incentives run through Thursday, August 26th.

Dungeons & Dragons Online probably isn't going to give World of Warcraft a run for  its money any time soon, but the game has carved out an impressive spot in the free-to-play arena by offering a full-featured game that utilizes the world's oldest and most recognizable role-playing system. If you've never tried the game, consider signing up for an account and checking out the new content.
