Does Anybody Want Parasite Eve On Console?

by Ben Reeves on Aug 20, 2010 at 07:30 AM

Would you like to see a new Parasite Eve on consoles? Then buy The 3rd Birthday on PSP.

There have to be a few gamers out there who remember the PSone RPG/survival horror series Parasite Eve. It's been a long while since we've seen a new game in the franchise, but the third entry in the series, simply titled The 3rd Birthday, might renew some interest in the series. I'd personally like to see the franchise return to consoles, and hopefully I'm not the only one.

Square Enix Producer Yoshinori Kitase (Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy XIII) recently told us in an interview, "this game is on the PSP, but it should have – it has to have – and it does have the kind of scale found in a larger console title. So we're satisfied with the size of this title, but if it turned out to be a success then we would seriously consider stepping it up and releasing the next game on PS3."

So the question is, "is The 3rd Birthday worth buying?" From what we've seen, the game looks like an entertaining shooter (on a system that hasn't handled shooters well in the past, no less). The game continues the adventures of Aya Brea who has become a member of a special government squad called the CTI, a group formed to deal with the threat of a sudden alien attack.

While the game is largely a shooter, a generous lock-on mechanic keeps the action frustration free, and Aya will level up and gain new powers throughout the game. We got to see overdrive in action, an ability that lets Aya jump into the bodies of other people within the world in order to solve puzzles and get a better handle on tactical firefights.

The 3rd Birthdays still doesn't have a release date, but it could be out later this year in Japan, so hopefully we'll be able to get our hands on the game soon.
