Dead Space Ignition Interview

Dead Space Ignition is a brand new downloadable game coming to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in advance of the release of Dead Space 2. In fact, the plotline of the new game will act as a preface for the larger retail release. Plus, several exclusive bonuses will be available in Dead Space 2 to players who have beat the different endings of the downloadable title. Producer Rich Briggs gave us the full story on the project in a recent interview.

When and where is the setting for Dead Space Ignition, particularly in relation to the first and second Dead Space games? How does Ignition connect up to the plots and events of the other games?

Dead Space Ignition is a prologue that takes place on The Sprawl, in the few hours leading up to the beginning of Dead Space 2. You’ll be challenged to survive the initial Necromorph outbreak that sets the stage for the events of Dead Space 2.

Who is the main character? What other characters are involved in the game?

You play as Franco Delille, an Engineer with the Copernican Police Department. His partner Sarah Andarsyn is a field agent who handles the fire power. Franco is a computer specialist, so he relies on Sarah to watch his back while he hacks into various systems.

What is the story setup that players will encounter in Ignition?

Ignition opens with a routine repair assignment, but you’ll quickly learn that things are breaking down all over the Sprawl. As you move from one location to the next, the Necromorph outbreak will become more and more severe.

  • I can't wait I love the comics and the Dead Space fiction in general I wonder what the endings will be like and whether Dead Space 2 will feature multiple endings.

  • Nice, this will probably be my first ever downloadable game that I will get. I think how this will tie in with Dead Space 2 will be very intriguing.

  • I just love game-based comics, they are so cool.

  • This sounds like a good idea to build up even more hype when DS2 comes out next year.

    C'mon, $5!

  • A must have for me.

  • 5$ please. Then ill buy it

  • I'd say they should give it away for free, just to stir up (more) interest.

  • i cant wait for DS 2 , and im surely going to check this game out too

  • I think i may get this. even though they said the special edition for dead space 2 will offer this game anyway. but idk if i wanna wait that long

  • I'm a shameless Dead Space fanboy. If DS were a woman, she would be my wife. By any. Means. Necessary.

  • The Dead Space franchise has a lot of gameplay variety which makes all of the games very appealing.

I'll have to get this on my future PS3 so I can get the collector's edition on the PS3.

  • I have to try this and some other dlc that is coming and is already out. Mass Effect 1 & 2, plus Call of Duty 1, Shadow Complex will be mine, plus TFU 2. Nice interview guys. Can you guys make a interview with the creator of The Legend Of Zelda and Mario? Include it in the magazine also.

  • cool.

  • This DLC will be so amazing. I love the Dead Space franchise and I can't wait to get more into it. And while we are on the subject of Dead Space, when does the new animated movie Dead Space: Aftermath come out?

  • I'd play it.

  • As always, PC is underrated. *** idiots.

  • can't wait to get it

  • If you want this game, then just preorder Dead Space 2 at GameStop. The game, despite being worth $5, is so laughably short and not very challenging. You'll be happy that you save $5 just by preordering the full game.

    The Bad:
    - Game is too short
    - Gameplay is limited to three different minigames
    - Not remotely challenging; all story paths can be completed in a total of less than two hours.
    - All achievements can be unlocked in less than two hours; maybe a little longer if you want to beat at least one of these branching paths in less than 25 minutes
    - Comic art design looks rushed and not polished; could have used more animation during the cut scenes

    The Good:
+ Choose Your Own Adventure concept is pretty sound
+ Extra unlock bonuses for use in the upcoming Dead Space 2 game
+ If you're planning on playing Dead Space 2, then the game is free if you preorder it
+ All achievements can be unlocked in less than two hours
