Previous titles in the Metal Gear Solid series have featured the ability to play through the entire game without killing a single person. You could avoid them via pure stealth, or you could stick to nonlethal weapons like your tranquilizer dart. After hearing about Rising, however, we wouldn't blame you for wondering if a no-kill playthrough was possible. After all, the game seems to focus heavily on slicing everything you see into itty bits with your sword.

However, the game sticks with series tradition by leaving the nonviolent option open for players. At GamesCom today, Konami stated that the game never rewards you for killing humans. Hands can be chopped off, guns can be sliced in two, and good old-fashioned enemy avoidance will all be key strategies if you want to finish the game with a zero in the kills column.

But let's be realistic, now...we all want to lop off a billion heads in this game, right?
