EA Shows Off Harry Potter With Kinect

by Matthew Kato on Aug 17, 2010 at 06:30 AM

EA showed off the upcoming Harry Potter game using Kinect at its Gamescom press conference in Germany. The company even brought the Weasley twins – played by actors James and Oliver Phelps – to demonstrate.

The pair made their way through a wooded area, using various spells to fight enemies. Their movements didn't seem to correspond one-to-one to the spell-casting onscreen, but they were throwing quite a lot at their foes; one spell after the other. What was conspicuous, however, was the fact that combat with multiple enemies required the onscreen characters to remain absolutely still while the camera and the spells' lock-on pivoted automatically from one target to the next. How switching between targets is unknown. Movement down the forest paths was also done automatically.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 comes out November 16 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS, PC, and mobile devices.
