Doom 4 Coming To Consoles And PC Simultaneously

Despite a promise at last year's QuakeCon, Doom 4 was nowhere to be seen at the event's 2010 incarnation. However, the team at id Software is still working on the next installment in the classic shooter franchise, aiming for a simultaneous release on all platforms.

According to id Software CEA Todd Hollenshead, the target is for all three versions (PC, Xbox 360, and PS3) to hit at the same time. "That's absolutely what we're thinking," he told Kotaku. "That would certainly be the hope."

A simultaneous multiplatform release would be a nice change, considering that Doom 3 hit on PC first in 2004, then only on original Xbox the following year.

Looking ahead to Doom 4's release may be a bit premature; don't forget that the studios other big project, Rage, is scheduled to hit first – September 13, 2011. So, though you still have plenty of id games in your future, you won't be playing them soon.

  • awesome doom 4 is what ive been waitin 4

  • cant wait! :D looks nice.

  • what'll doom 4 be like, i wonder? besides awesome, of course

  • As much as I enjoyed Doom II all those years ago, Doom 3 wasn't anything I was anticipating... played it anyway of course, and was left with a potent "Meh" feeling by the end.

I'm glad to see id doing things like Rage..

  • It's going to be awesome!!!

  • Man I'll tell you what...I'm excited for Doom 4, I'm glad its coming to the PS3. However, no matter how good Rage looks, I'd rather have Doom 4 first.

  • The development cycles of this company are completely ridiculous .

Releasing only two games a decade doesn't make a whole lot of sense, perhaps hiring a bigger team will allow them to release Rage 2 before i die.

  • Awesome,can't wait.

  • looks fun.

  • DUH?!

  • Doom 4... Cant wait!

  • thats good

  • Makes sense, seeing how ID has never really been into doing exclusives.

  • I sure hope Id can add something to their DOOM franchise. With games like BF2BC, Halo and MW2 holding down the multiplayer aspect of today's FPSs, it will be interesting to see how ID works around Doom4's story and gameplay. Maybe a co-op, story driven, horror shooter could bring back the glory days of the Doom franchise, or perhaps we could be left with Doom 3 part 2.

    That said,

Awesome news! Hope the game re-invigorates the sightly dusty Doom franchise.

  • YES!!!i want Doom 4 so badly.Probobly wont get it till late 2012 or early 2013.

  • I want to see Rage more than Doom 4.

  • Please id, Bring on the doom. Doom 3 left me starving for more, and seeing it on a nextgen system will be worth any wait and expense.

  • I'll believe it when it happens. They can tell you its coming out sooner rather then later... Just like Duke Nukem forever is coming out next Spring... Fall .. um i mean New year

  • Coolio.

  • Sweet, looking forward to Doom 4!
