Dynasty Warriors Goes Free-To-Play

by Adam Biessener on Aug 12, 2010 at 09:35 AM

Tecmo Koei announced today that Dynasty Warriors will enter the free-to-play space on PC soon. Aeria Games, the U.S. division of Japanese company Aeria Inc. and proud publisher of over a dozen games you've never heard of, will develop and maintain the game.

The press release announcing the game makes it sound like Dynasty Warriors Online will be exactly what you would expect: crazily overpowered heroes cutting wide swathes through superior forces in fast-paced action-oriented battles. Aeria plans to offer several game modes, including PvP (of the 4-on-4 and 12-on-12 varieties), territorial control (whatever that means), and story-based battles.

As much fun as it is to take cheap shots at Dynasty Warriors' stale gameplay and the uneven quality of free-to-play games, it's good to hear that competitive and cooperative play are both part of Dynasty Warriors Online. We'll have to see if the gameplay decent, but there's no way to know quite yet.

Dynasty Warriors Online is scheduled to enter closed beta testing in North America and Europe soon.
