The lights are on
Like our ability to comprehend words where only the first and last letter are correctly in place (It is sgnifciatnly esiear than one wulod tinhk), it's surprising how easily our brains can identify these iconic Street Fighter characters in their ultimate abstract form.
Artist and blogger InfiniteContinues recently debuted the above image, inspired by Bauhaus and De Stijl era designs and the simple presentation of early Atari and Intellivision games.
Infinite Continues previously garnered attention for his similar studies in video-game minimalism – using only the most primitive shapes and colors of industry-staple characters to prove just how recognizable they are. Check out his Flickr stream to see the entire set.
How long did it take you to identify the characters above?
[Thanks to Tony Goff for the tip!]
Well done, man. This is really cool. Got all of them right away, with the exception of Honda.
Is it sad that I knew them all once i had the first one because its the Street Fighter 2 character select screen?
Even though I only played Street Fighter a few times at a friends house, I still knew over half of these.
i know them all except the one next to ryu....
Recognized them all the second I looked at each one!! Does that make us super nerds?
What the hell? This is art? Hope this person doesn't get paid much, or that I could for doing the same.
By the way, what are they supposed to be?
It took me less than 30 seconds to name them all. The brain is an amazing thing.
Ken,Chun-li,Zangief ,Dshalim. *if thats how you spell his name lol.* Really not hard when you grew up on the games early on.
Top row from left to right - Ryu, E Honda, Blanka, Guile Bottom row from left to right - Ken, Chun Li, Zangief, Dhalsim.
seriously fascinating! But I wouldn't have picked that out if I'd seen the image sans article...
I could tell instantly. And how cool is that..
Very nice.LOL it looks like air force rank's
That's kind of cool, but I could only identify like 3 of them.
I knew them immediately....the brain is awesome!
