Building NHL 11's Ultimate Team

by Matthew Kato on Aug 09, 2010 at 09:30 AM

Like FIFA and Madden before it, the NHL series is including the Ultimate Team mode in NHL 11 where you earn and collect cards for players, uniforms, contracts, coaches, and more to try and build a dominating team on the ice. Here's a video with one of the game's producers, Andy Agostini, talking about the mode.

Ultimate Team plays nicely into the game's inclusion of junior and minor leagues like the OHL, AHL, and many more – not to mention foreign leagues – as many of your initial cards will feature the real life players of these leagues. As you progress and earn pucks to buy better packs, you're faced with many questions, such as: Do you train and build up a team of prospects for the long haul or try to strike it quick with a roster of older players? Each Ultimate Team season is encapsulated within a month of on-ice play, and there are both single- and multiplayer tourneys to enter, as well as many other ins and outs.

NHL 11 comes out on September 7 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
