Warner Announces Green Lantern: Rise Of The Manhunters

Warner Bros. Interactive today announced that a Green Lantern game is in development, based on the upcoming movie and set to release in the same summer 2011 timeframe. Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is an action-adventure game being developed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Nintendo DS platforms by Double Helix (Silent Hill Homecoming, GI Joe: Rise of Cobra) and Griptonite Games (Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions [DS], Iron Man 2, Shrek Forever After).

“Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters gives players the chance to experience the world of the Green Lantern mythology in an interactive way, going beyond the events of the film and comic books,” said Samantha Ryan, senior vice president, production and development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “The game is the first to center around DC Comics’ Green Lantern franchise and we’re excited to give fans the opportunity to experience the power of the ring with engaging gameplay.”

Remember: They didn't think anyone could make a decent Batman game, either. We'll have to wait and see what Warner can do with this Green Lantern guy.

  • okay 2 things i want to say that i know this is going to be horrible

    1. Just because it says warner bros means nothing. Rocksteady is the one that made Arkhum asylum mot WB.

    2. Double helix made gi joe the rise of cobra(42/100 on metacritic) and griptonite made iron man 2(41/100 on metacritic)

SORRY FOR POINTING OUT THE OBVIOUS BUT I WAS DELVING DEEPER INTO THE FACTS TO FIND OUT 100% THIS GAME IS GOING TO SUCK.
  • i'll reserve my judgment until the game is released but my expectations for this title are exceptionally low.

  • ew its being made by the people who did iron man 2. youre gonna have to do more than say "theres a green lantern game coming out!" after knowing that if you want to impress people.

  • I don't know about this one...I would have to see some more info.

  • They're going to eff it up

  • Just another cynic stating the obvious in what seems to be an uphill battle for two teams who have not put out a decent title.  Will definitely pass unless they pull a Rocksteady.

  • @john

You think im a cynic? what really pisses me off is they waste all of this money just to get low sales and bad review scores. They should either hire more people or hire people with more experience. I am not being cynical to the people that made iron man 2 or gi joe. I respect that their team at least tried. Now if they do pull a rocksteady( shattered dimensions doesnt look bad) i will take back everything i just said.

  • This is all adding up to no good in my book.

  • Just some more people to add to my hitlist...

  • Uh...  Griptonite Games didn't make Iron man 2.

They made Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (DS).  They are mainly a DS developer.

  • I really want this to be good. :(

  • Yeah... They probably only just started developing the game, that's why it's going to be bad. They don't ever give these people enough time to make these games. Graphics are always horrible, flying controls are going to suck, melee combat WILL be broke.

  • Green Lantern video game...awesome news. Green Lantern video game based on the movie...much less awesome news.

  • Meh..I'd be more interested if Rocksteady were making it.

  • It is important to remember that Rocksteady had a far from perfect pedigree before Arkham Asylum.

I will not right this off immediately.

  • man i hope this game is awesome i love GL, not getting my hopes ups

  • REALLY REALLY hope this game is gonna be good!

  • Why even get your hopes up?! Is it just me, or is this game being developed by Double Helix for 4 platforms? But wait there's more! It's set to be released in the same summer 2011 timeframe. Is it possible that this game can be at least mediocre? Of course, but that's about as hopeful as I will allow myself to be. Most film/game tie-ins are pretty bad. No game based on a movie and developed on more than the main two platforms is good. Just think about how the guys at Double Helix feel right now. They have to finish this game in a year, for 4 platforms, and plus the developers are held captive by the films plot. I'll tell you how they feel; they're just happy to get an easy check, so they can develop games they actually care about.

  • It's gunna flop HARD but I'm still going to buy it. Hardcore Green Lantern nerd.

  • The best movie-tie in has to be Peter Jackson's King Kong.

Tight controls.Stellar storytelling.Complete power as Kong.
