Rockstar Goes After Red Dead Cheaters

by Matthew Kato on Jul 22, 2010 at 03:54 AM

Rockstar is sending out its own posse after what it sees as Red Dead Redemption cheaters and hackers. The long arm of the law will find you.

A message on the company's website reads in part, "...to ensure we preserve the integrity of gameplay for all online, we are actively working on new features to counter against the isolated incidents of abuse that go on." Rockstar promises anyone found cheating "beyond a shadow of a doubt" for a period of its choosing. Moreover, the company says it's working on an update to the game (which should be available within the next month) that will contain other measures to combat cheating and hacking.

Although the company isn't going into great detail about what kinds of cheating players are doing, it says that in Free Roam mode it wants to stamp out player bullying. So, if someone is agitating you and you want to get away, you'll have the option to transport and respawn to another location of your choosing. Additionally, anyone who gets a six-kill streak in Free Roam mode will instantly attain "Most Wanted" status and the NPC law will get after them. Rockstar hasn't clarified whether this is six kills of the same person by one player, or any six kills in general.

What kinds of online multiplayer cheating or hacking would you like to see Rockstar address?
