Guitar Hero's New Story Mode Taps Rush's 2112

by Jeff Cork on Jul 21, 2010 at 03:25 AM

Rush fans, assemble! Activision today revealed a bit more about its upcoming Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, and it's news that fans of Canadian prog-rock will lap right up. The game's Quest Mode will feature Rush's 2112 song suite, which spans seven tracks and 20 or so minutes. The game version includes a transforming Rush venue and liner notes narrated by the band itself.

“The music, the story and the journey of 2112 lends itself perfectly to the quest in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock,” said Geddy Lee of Rush. “In our story, the caves of 2112 are where our hero finds the lost guitar and this rediscovery of music is much like the Guitar Hero warriors’ journey to find the Demi-God of Rock’s Legendary guitar, which has been trapped in a cavern.”  All right! Cave guitar!

If you haven't figured it out yet, the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series are parting ways conceptually. After stalking the same plastic-guitar territory for the past few years, Activision is taking its series into increasingly fanciful directions, while Harmonix seems more focused on teaching fans how to actually learn to play instruments. We'll have to see if there's room enough for both concepts to flourish.

If nothing else, Activision can now brag about holding the all-important Rush card.
