Sakaguchi’s Retirement Rumors Premature?

by Jeff Cork on Jul 20, 2010 at 04:32 AM

Last week, there was talk that Hironobu Sakaguchi's upcoming Wii game The Last Story might be his last game, too. This week, an official English translation of that original Japanese blog entry casts more light on his thinking.

The Final Fantasy creator says that, "Emotionally it feels like this is my last work, while pouring everything I have gotten into this project. Never regret, but now 'I’m enjoying'; furthermore, aiming towards completion. The sense of “This is it” relaxes my shoulders, its pleasant feeling to conduct an orchestra by the sense of my intuition."

So it feels like his last work, emotionally, but does he also mean literally? Also, what does he mean when he says "This is it"? Make of that what you will. At any rate, it's not as though he's started stacking chairs around the office and flicking the lights on and off.
