Red Faction: Origins Movie Coming To SyFy In 2011

by Jeff Cork on Jul 19, 2010 at 03:56 AM

SyFy has hashed out a decent niche developing and releasing B-grade original movies. Now, the channel behind Dinocroc vs. Supergator and Man-Thing has announced something that might appeal directly to gamers, and not just those who are interested in watching terrible things late at night. The channel has been working with THQ to create an original movie based on the Red Faction games, and viewers will be able to see the results of the partnership this March, when Red Faction: Origins airs.

As the name suggests, Red Faction: Origins is an origin story of sorts, focusing on events between Red Faction: Guerilla and the upcoming Red Faction: Armageddon games. The story will follow Jake Mason, son of Alec Mason, as he battles an army bent on obliterating the Red Faction. It's being positioned as a pilot, so if interest is high enough viewers might be seeing more Red Faction on the channel in the future.

We're expecting to hear more about the movie from Comic-Con this week. Our own Ben Reeves and Annette Gonzalez are there, and we'll be bringing you any updates on trailers, casting, plot, or whatever directly from San Diego. Stay tuned.
