UPDATE: NES Sells For $50,000

by Andrew Reiner on Jul 19, 2010 at 07:30 AM

UPDATE: The NES that sold for $50,000 on eBay has been re-listed. Hot Blooded Gaming contacted Ronald3868 after the re-listing and has learned that the buyer did not pay for the item, and the reason for backing out is being kept private. I'm guessing the buyer is a 12-year-old who just learned a valuable lesson about eBay and internet sales. I had my fingers crossed for Ronald. We don't see enough kind gestures these days.

ORIGINAL STORY: Before you get any ideas, most Nintendo Entertainment Systems sell for garage sale prices on eBay. How eBay user Ronald3868 managed to bring in $50,000 for his NES (which does have a "keeping it old school" sticker on it) and 42 commonly found games is the question everyone is dying to know the answer to. He did say that this particular NES is his most prized possession, and that he wanted to make a fair bit of money off this auction so he could pay a few bills.

Did someone with more money than they know what to do with step up to help out Ronald, or will this strange sale go down as another Ebay prank? Long story short, I hope he gets the money...and that all video game relics are eventually worth small fortunes, allowing all gamers to buy their own islands.
