Final Fantasy XIV Closed Beta Kicks Off This Weekend

One or two of us may be busy with some other MMO beta, but that's not going to stop Square Enix. With Final Fantasy XIV nearing its September release date, a closed beta for the game will begin this weekend.

Andriasang has the news straight from the official Japanese Twitter account for FF XIV. According to the post, the beta will begin this Saturday, July 10.

It's currently unclear if this phase of the closed beta is for Japan only or if North American gamers will also be allowed in. We've reached out to representatives for the game regarding this and will update when we have an answer.

Given how improved the beta looks over the alpha, I'm excited to jump back in and explore the world of Eorzea soon.

  • going to suck it will

    (yoda impersonation ;) )
  • its going to rock it will

    *smacks havoc*

anywho still have it preordered but if they announce a new phantasy star at tokyo game show ill be getting that instead.

  • I may not be into MMORPG anymore, but I love FFXI and XIV for the phenomenal art direction (90% of it anyway)

  • It's coming out already? Boy, after dragging their feet for tour years, I'm glad to see they've expedited the release schedule for the roman numeral titles. Maybe we'll see XV before 2013 plz?

  • Everybody who was in Alpha gets access to Beta. You can do the math to figure out who that is :P

  • The first company to release a good mmo on consoles is going to make a ton of money.  Surprized to see that companies haven't done this yet.  As for this, who really cares?

  • I'm downloading the client right now, however I am having some speed issues.

  • I'm excited but I have to wait untill the ps3 release.

  • Wish I could participate.

  • the graphics are awesome i think its gong to rock

  • I was a fan of FFXI and I'm sure I'll be a fan of FFXIV.

But the amount of time from Beta to release seems extremely short (unless you include the Alpha). Square said they were going to hold the Beta for at least 6 months, but the reality is that it won't even be up for longer than a couple of months before the game is released.

I hope they know what they're doing.
  • GI, I'm was in the alpha (and now the beta) and yes this Saturday it's live in North America too. If you would've done some actual thinking, you could have just used the Japan Twitter name and instead of JP at the end of the name, used EN and you would have seen that. Anyway... in the Alpha the servers would constantly kick people because they were so busy, so the prospect of having new gamers annoys me. Hopefully they have worked out the server issues for the Beta so we can actually play now. The alpha was awesome, so I know the Beta and full release will be well worth the price of admission.
  • Can't wait, woop woop.

  • I hope the Beta runs smoothly, and they find a bunch of glitches!

  • I cannot wait for this. It's going to be amazing.

  • I can't wait to play this already on Ps3!

  • Looks like a potentially awesome game (and great picture up there).
