PSP Cam May Be Incompatible With Go In North America

North American PSP Go owners are in for heartbreak. The PSP camera needed for upcoming releases EyePet and Invizimals will only fit onto the larger, older PSP-3000 model.

PlayStation Blog's Sid Shuman said in a user forum that there is no way around it at this time.

"No workaround that I know — the camera was designed for the pre-go models only. Maybe you can borrow a friend’s?" Shuman said in response to a user question regarding compatibility.

There is the PSP Go converter cable that was announced at Tokyo Game Show last year, however there is still no word on a stateside release. A Sony representative told Joystiq that there is no information yet on a peripheral attachment for the Go. Looks like we'll have to wait and see if Sony will come out with a solution for Go users wanting to get their hands on the PSP camera.

  • Oh come on Marcus, nothing to say? Actually seems like a small issue to me, then again people who bought a PSP GO are probable exactly the kind of people to waste their money on this.

The thing sure is sexy, it looks like Forrest Gump's leg braces.
  • thats too bad

  • GOOD,only a moron would still be invested in the psp. Im waiting for the psp 2 because the psp games arent getting any better.

  • I'm sure at least one of the 6 people that have these will be very upset.

  • looks fugly

  • Don't really care all that much. The way I see it the PSP, DS, and any other handheld gaming device for that matter was made with the intention of playing in public. If I am playing on a handheld that last thing I wan't to do is add a peripheral to it especially one that is useful for only two games both of which don't appeal to me.

  • The psp go just wasn't a good idea to begin with

  • I think cams make systems crazy

  • What is a camera going to do for the PSP besides nothing.  I feel like this is a feeble attempt at bringing the PSP back.  I just sold my slim for Red Dead and I haven't missed it one bit.

  • lol aw well i dont really care to much for the mini cam.

  • Everything bout pspgo says expensive its a waste of mony and for 50 more dollars u can get a PS3

  • pph... dont know why i invested in the psp. disappointment.

  • Dam, I have the 3000 model. That means I can fit it. Why, oh why must I be punished?!

(I do know I don't have to buy it :P)

  • Sony fails again. Microsoft epic win.

  • Are you freaking kidding me. How hard is it to change a plastic attachment and data cable. If they release the software anyways i will JuryRig it myself.

  • Yeah for all the 10 people that own a Go.

  • DSi's cameras for the win?

  • Well the five people who still have their PSP GO will be disappointed...My PSP 3000 gets constant use around the house and a camera just extended it's use by another year or so. Even my kids' DS has a camera function on it...

  • FAIL!!!

no one really like thee go at all, considering if you had a normal psp your games wouldnt work in it. the go is a friggen waste of money

  • Wait.  So rather than introduce the PSP2 with a built-in camera, Sony decides to use their limited resources on a camera peripheral for the PSP that won't fit the PSP Go and is destined to die off quickly with little support or caring to speak of?

Sony should just admit defeat on the PSP and build a better product with the PSP2.  Stop wasting more money on a sinking ship.  Let it go.  And make the PSP2 to compete with the iPhone.  Maybe then, Nintendo will start seeing Sony as its competition in the handheld market, too.
