Kojima Working On Metal Gear Solid 5?

by Matthew Kato on Jul 07, 2010 at 07:03 AM

Kojima Productions currently has a number of irons in the fire. There's the Metal Gear 3DS title, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Metal Gear Solid Rising. But has Hideo Kojima added Metal Gear Solid 5 to the mix?

In an interview with Enterbrain, Kojima revealed that he is at a crossroads as to what his next project is going to be, and Metal Gear Solid 5 is one of the options. "For the next game I make, it's either MGS 5 or an original game. I only have these two choices."

After dismissing the possibility of a new Z.O.E., Kojima contradicted himself when describing this new venture. "The next project is amazing. The plan is pretty much solidified. Although recently, it has wavered a bit." Kojima described how he got back from E3 and began to re-think what he wanted this next title to be. "I'm not sure myself, but I began to want to do something different from what I'd wanted to do originally."

Kojima did say that preliminary work has begun on this new game, and that he knows that it can't take forever to come out.

The Metal Gear creator is well known for his sense of humor, and it wouldn't surprise us that when he said, "I only have these two choices," that he was jokingly referring to his own career. People either expect him to do the predictable: MGS 5 or something entirely new. This doesn't leave room for series like Z.O.E., and it may be more of a comment on people's expectations than a confirmation of MGS 5. Regardless, we expect the hints from Kojima to keep coming.
