Miyamoto Hints At New Nintendo Character

by Annette Gonzalez on Jul 02, 2010 at 06:30 AM

At a Nintendo shareholder meeting this week, the legendary game director Shigeru Miyamoto told investors that he may add one new character to his roster of video game stars.

According to a transcription of the meeting, when asked about upcoming projects, Miyamoto said it's been a busy time with 3DS game development underway, however it has also sparked some new ideas.

"It's been nearly 10 years since the creation of Pikmin," Miyamoto said. "I think this coming year, it's about time a new character be created."

Regarding the Pikmin sequel, he said the project needs to be finished soon, admitting that it is still in development.

Pikmin was a direct inspiration from his gardening hobby at the time. Perhaps the new character will involve his current favorite hobby, swimming, which he said at the meeting has allowed him to actively work with youth in his community.

If you would pitch a new character for the Nintendo brand, what would it be?
