Final Fantasy XIV Has Two Release Dates

Gamers looking forward to Square Enix's upcoming MMO finally have a release date to pin their hopes on – two dates, actually. The publisher has announced that the collector's edition and normal version of Final Fantasy XIV on PC will release on September 22 and September 30, respectively.

In addition to playing the game a week early, players who pick up the collector's edition will get a bunch of other goodies, too. An exclusive in-game item, a behind-the-scenes DVD, and a journal will also be packed in with the game, all for $75. If you don't want all the bells and whistles, you can just pick up the normal PC version for $50.

After the first free 30 days are over, the game will cost $13 per month. However, if you want to maintain multiple playable characters, you'll have to pay an additional $3 per character per month.

It's important to note that the September release dates apply only to the PC iteration of Final Fantasy XIV. The PS3 entry is slated for March 2011, and the pricing and subscription details for that version have yet to be announced.

  • This applies to the PS3 version as well, right?

  • If this game has a supscription fee, and costs $60 for the PS3, then no thanks.

  • Strange how they haven't released the date for Japan and America yet, it should've been simultaneous.

I'm guessing that XIII taught Square to work on ported versions of the game later so that the original doesn't  have to suffer.  Only problem now is that they may not want to start doing marketing for Versus until after March.

  • Its a brilliant money-making move, but I feel a little violated...

  • poopffXII sucked

  • I noticed the One-time password Digipass. I wonder if it will be possible to use an existing one, if you already have one, or if you must register a new one.

edit: btw, my benchmark score barely reached past 1500. I guess i will have to wait until the PS3 release. Either that, or fork over $1500 bucks for a new rig...
  • I'm just going to wait for the PS3 version, please and thanks.

  • I don't really like that you have to pay more to have more than one character. Making alts is one way to keep people paying that $13 a month and this practice discourages that. Maybe they think most people will pay it anyway. Now, I wouldn't mind a one time charge of $3 but it is kind of dumb to make people with 4 characters pay $9 more a month than people with 1.
  • Monthly fee? No thanks!

  • sooner then I thought, well for PC.  Later then I thought for PS3.

  • I HAVE AN IDEA: Scrap this and finish Versus XIII faster

  • I just got a message from G4 saying its also coming out for he 360

  • sorry to burst your bubbles but most mmos cost at least 40 dollars to buy and big name titles usually also have a subscription based fee also XD buts i still plans to get it.

  • I will get the CE for Ps3 thank god they aren't adding it in for the holidays. Now that would suck. The price per month is decent

  • WTF no xbox 360 this time around????? lame.........

  • WTF no xbox 360 this time around????? lame.........

  • Cool news. I hope the PS3 version has this special edition as well.

  • I'm actually surprised this is being released before Versus XIII.I always expected a game that comes AFTER the respective number would be released later.

  • Hopefully this game won't be entirely group based like FFXI, you had to have a full group just to take a walk.

  • ok wow thats *** cynical of them to release it earlier for a collectors aka more money edition.

Now I would consider myself a collector (go BIG or go home) so I would definitely get the Collectors, but still its a Dick move.

I'm also gonna note that the art is absolutely gorgeous!
