Weekend Warrior 06/25/10

by Annette Gonzalez on Jun 25, 2010 at 02:00 PM

Post-E3 recovery is still underway, but we're ready to jump back into our favorite games. Read on to find out what we're playing this weekend, then head over to the comments section and spill your game plans.

Jeff C: After E3, the last thing I wanted to do was talk about, think about, or play video games. Now I’m back. I’ve got a few games on the playlist, including Toy Story 3, Alan Wake, and Dark Void (wait, what?). I’m bouncing between them, which has been a pretty fun and strange experience. Ooh! Scary! Ooh! Cute! Ooh, I flew into another wall! Ultimately, I’m just killing time until Puzzle Quest II hits XBLA next week…

Annette: I'm still on the road to recovery from E3, but am ready to jump back into my favorite games. I have a friend in town this weekend so we have a few outings planned, still I plan on introducing her to the world of Red Dead Redemption. With all the advertisement that game has received her interest is piqued so I'm hoping she doesn't mind me playing for a while. Also, we totally intend on watching Toy Story 3. I've heard nothing but positive reviews so I'm absolutely psyched to check it out.

Nick: This weekend, I plan to catch up on some tasty DVR action. Burn Notice, MythBusters, The Good Guys, and more. I’m also going to get the camera gear out and shoot, shoot, shoot. It’s been a while since I’ve done any real serious shooting… maybe since the staff photos from launching the site which was like, forever ago. Cheese! Other than that, I will have Angry Birds open on my iPhone until I get through it. Best. iPhone. Game. Ever.

Tim: With Red Dead Redemption lying in a dusty, blood-soaked heap behind me, I turn my attention to Super Mario Galaxy 2. The first game is on my top 10 favorite games ever, so I’m eager to see if the sequel will usurp the original’s place in my heart. The combination of Yoshi, challenge, and classic Mario tunes really has me digging the game. I also picked up Joe Danger, which I’m really enjoying. It’s got a lot of the fun of Trials HD without the middle finger challenge levels.

Dan: I get the feeling I’m closing in on the end of Alan Wake, and I’m going to try to finish it up tonight and make sense of its story. After that, I may continue pushing towards that elusive 243rd star in Super Mario Galaxy 2. The requirements for it are absurd. If I have time, I’ll probably try out some of the “Outlaws To The End” DLC for Red Dead. A free extension to my favorite game of the year (so far) is never a bad thing.

Phil: I’ve been spending my week checking out Toy Story 3: The Video Game, which is far better than you’d ever expect a game based on a children’s movie to be. Toybox mode has me totally enthralled, so I’ll probably stick with that for a bit longer this weekend. Beyond that, I plan to re-download Counter-Strike Source to check out the massive update that it got this week. If I tire of unlocking Steam Achievements while taking out terrorists, I’ve been thinking of finally playing through Dead Rising before the sequel comes out, so maybe I’ll pop that in.

Jeff M: Now that we’re almost out of our post-E3 crunch, I’m looking forward to getting back on the open range and shooting up a bunch of no-good outlaws in Red Dead Redemption. I’ll also continue plugging away at Persona 3, which is so friggin’ huge it’s blowing my mind – or is that just my Evoker? Great, now I’m making JRPG jokes like a nerd…

Jeff A: I will continue my trend of playing catch-up with a bunch of great “old” games I missed out on. I’m currently delving into Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap and enjoying it immensely. The 2D sprites are simply gorgeous. Capcom did a fantastic job with this GBA game. I’m also planning on hopefully popping The Orange Box into my PS3 at some point. Half-Life 2 and Portal have been calling my name for quite some time now. And here’s hoping the Twins can bounce back from that embarrassing sweep at the hands of the Brewers. Ugh.

That's it for us. What are you playing this weekend?
