THQ’s Homefront Delivers Another Solid Showing

by Ben Reeves on Jun 16, 2010 at 02:23 PM

Kaos Studios grabbed our attention with Frontlines: Fuel of War, but with Homefront they’re hoping to knock us off our feet.

Homefront takes place in a future where the US has been invaded by a united Korean government. Like Kaos’s previous game, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Homefront is filled with cool, high-tech military toys. We got to see the Goliath in action -- a small tank drone that accompanied us through the battlefield. Using a pair of special goggles the player can mark targets for the Goliath, which will in turn fire heat seeking missiles at its targets.

The story is told through first-person, interactive sequences in the vein of the Half-Life series, and filled to the brim with dramatic prescripted sequences that had us jumping back with a thrill. At one point, a friendly missile miss-fired and hit our encampment. As the main character ran through the battlefield, we saw friends and enemies lit up like the Human Torch and running around screaming in pain. If the game is filled with more scenes like this, then the game is sure to deliver one hell of a rollercoaster ride.

What would happen if, in the future, the U.S. got invaded by a foreign power? How would the American population live? How would an army made up mostly of civilians fight back? Kaos is exploring these issues in Homefront, and we’re excited to see its answers when the game comes out in 2011.
