The lights are on
Teased at Gamer's Night in April, Konami has officially announced Silent Hill 8 (working title) for release on 360 and PS3. We still don't know much, but the game's director promises an "evolution of (the franchise's) core combat."
It appears that your protagonist will be a convict named Murphy Pendleton that's being transported on a prison bus. At one point, he escapes the bus and flees into the rainy forest. A teaser trailer showed him exploring the town of Silent Hill where something is (surprise!) definitely amiss.
Also revealed was the game's composer, Daniel Licht. He's no stranger to penning music for tense entertainment, as his previous works include Hellraiser, Children of the Corn, and Showtime series Dexter.
This new installment in the Silent Hill series will be released in 2011.

The first ones were amazing. Havent really touched the later games though.
A new Silent Hill...I was never too big a fan of the series when it came to actually playing them. Although I'm glad to see this series it still going on.
Maybe I'll pick this one up. I'll wait for more info first.
i just finished seeing some of the gameplay from Konami's live press conference. this looks to be going to its roots. and some of the mechanics reminded me of Alan Wake (the protagonist used a flashlight). looks less action-packed than Homecoming which is a good thing as Silent Hill is suppose to be a scary not face-paced action shooter. and yes, it is a bit creepy, too. i'll be keeping an eye out for this one.
I don't understand the hate for the later SH games. I love them all even the ones that changed the traditional style. I've been craving a returning trip to the beautiful nightmare that is Silent Hill. I hope they crank the scare factor to 11
If it'll be better than Homecoming, I'll play it.
Hellraiser has one of the best soundtracks around. Hope to see Silent Hill ditch the combat scheme from Homecoming, and return to the run before shoot style that worked so well in the originals.
Nothing but excitement for this game. I'm most intrigued about the protagonist being an escaped convict. I wonder if he's a violent criminal who's past victims will come back to haunt him in a twisted Silent Hill way. I also wonder if him being a convict means the combat will be more violent and less shoving monsters around.
Dope, gonna be weird without Yamaoka though
eh im not so into horror games
Sweet, another Silent Hill game! I've actually never played any of the games, but I could possibly start with this one, who knows?
Homecoming wasn't bad, but it could've been really, really good, and it overall wasn't scary. Hopefully this game will be scary and return to the series roots.
Well this looks like a game ill be looking forward to.Though i think i know where alan wake got its storyline now.
I can't handle more scary games! Dead Space is too scary for me to even think about this game!
Never have played a silent hill game.
Is it too much to ask for Konami of Japan to develop another Silent Hill game themselves? Ever since they started outsourcing the development of Silent Hill games to other companies, the series has gone downhill in a big way. It's no coincidence that the last excellent Silent Hill game, Silent Hill 4: The Room, was also the last one that was developed internally by Konami of Japan.
Gosh... Silent Hill will never be the same. Wasn't Homecoming supposed to do the same thing about the combat? All of these 5-dollar words with no delivery. I'm just glad Gameinformer usually has reviews a few days before the game comes out.
I'm really glad about them finding a great composer since he has a nice resume, but seriously since silent hill 3 they haven't been up to par as far as scares and overall quality. i would like that to finally change, though ive said that with the past few titles :(
I've seen the short teaser, definitely looks scary already. Can't wait to see how Konami handles with this new Silent Hill game.
after the disapointment that was homecoming I'm going to wait and see how this turns out...more Silent Hill is always good those games freak me the eff out...
i cant wait i hope it goes back to the old formula like the 2nd and 3rd those two were awesome
