Kid Icarus Producer Says Non-3D Games "Like Driving A Car With One Eye"

by Dan Ryckert on Jun 16, 2010 at 03:11 PM

We had a chance to speak with Kid Icarus Uprising producer Masahiro Sakurai today, and his enthusiasm for Nintendo's new handheld was apparent. When asked about the decision to put Pit's new adventure on the 3D handheld, he stated "Up until now, playing normal games would be like driving a car with one eye closed. It really hinders your sense of depth. Now if you take this ability to use the 3D space and use it to your advantage, it provides a much more enriching game experience for the user."

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto had similar sentiments when we spoke with him yesterday. He mentioned how the enhanced field of vision helps in situations like determining where to stand underneath question blocks. Whether or not the 3DS changes the way games can be made (and played) remains to be seen, but it's done a great job of impressing the GI crew this week. Keep an eye on the site for further E3 and 3DS news.
