PlayStation Move's Sorcery Revealed

by Joe Juba on Jun 15, 2010 at 09:58 AM

In its effort to show off titles that use the PlaySatation Move's unique control mechanics, Sony demonstrated the upcoming Sorcery.

The game is a fantasy-themed action title about a young sorceror's apprentice stopping the world from an encroaching evil. Touting fidelity not possible with other motion controllers, Sony emphasized the immersion possible with Move's technology.

We saw the 1:1 correlation in action as the main character's wand movements mirrored those of the person holding the controller. The action picked up as the apprentice wandered through dungeon-like corridors, and a simple flick on the wand sent frost  and arcane energy flying toward the advancing foes.

The spells can also be combined; you can use the Move controller to draw a line of fire on the ground, then  send a  whirlwind through it to create a firestorm. We also saw the apprentice use a polymorph potion, transforming into a rat in order to reach out-of-the-way places. Sony also teased other animal  transformations, but before we could see them in action, a lumbering Golem emerged and attacked, cutting the demo short.

Sorcery made a good first impression; we'll have to wait to hear more about how it blends intuitive controls with satisfying gameplay.
