Donkey Kong Country Returns This Holiday Season

In a press conference that has seen the return of a number of classic Nintendo franchises, perhaps the biggest surprise was the announcement of Donkey Kong Country Returns, a brand new 2D platformer for the Wii created by Retro Studios, known for its work on the 3D Metroid games. The video shown demonstrated DK and DK Jr. in some fast and hectic 2D levels, and even -- if we saw correctly -- engaged in some pit fighting! The game looks great, and the best news: it's coming out this holiday season.

Donkey Kong Country is one of my favorite games. This one has a lot of shoes to fill. I'm really hoping the soundtrack is just as good. Does anyone know if Rare have a hand in this one?

Wow. I have to say... go Nintendo... I thought the company was on a downward spiral... but with some of these announcements, plus the recent announcement of the black wii bundle... I may just be getting a wii in the future

honestly watching the trailer i was thinking "wow this looks just like the excellent dk country games back on the snes" then the title came up as dk country returns and the revelation was complete

ive just seen it and it looks awesome is like the original dk country but with new graphics and in the background there is a lot of movement, like explosions and more new stuff. This game is what DK country Fans have been waiting for. I have a PS3 and now i want a Wii just to play that game.

this was definately the sleeper hit of the conference. classic gameplay mixed in with some pretty cool new stuff. this game is gonna be great.
