Microsoft Officially Unveils Kinectimals

by Tim Turi on Jun 14, 2010 at 08:36 AM

Microsoft's Kudo Tsunoda officially announced Kinectimals at the company's press conference today. A little girl took to the stage and played with a baby tiger named Skittles, showcasing Kinect's interactivity and kid-friendly fun.

Kinect is going to "Revolutionize the way you have fun," said Tsunoda. After he was done hyping Microsoft's motion-control tech, he admitted that the "time for talk is over," and introduced a young girl.

We watched as the little girl spoke and played with her furry tiger friend. The cub responded to her every word and movement. When she asked the critter to fetch a jump rope,he did so obediently. Then the girl began swinging the jump rope, and if the rhythm was off, the tiger would get tripped up, oftentimes to hilarious results. One especially tricky jump was punctuated with a bullet time-esque slow motion shot. The way that jump rope interacted with the tiger's fur was particularly impressive. The demo concluded with the tiger compassionately licking the screen while the little girl ran away, from what we assume was an overdose of adorableness.

Also revealed is that there will be over 40 animals in Kinectimals, of which only cats have been revealed. Kudo also said that there will be over 30 ways to interact with the animals.
