Microsoft Officially Unveils Kinectimals

Microsoft's Kudo Tsunoda officially announced Kinectimals at the company's press conference today. A little girl took to the stage and played with a baby tiger named Skittles, showcasing Kinect's interactivity and kid-friendly fun.

Kinect is going to "Revolutionize the way you have fun," said Tsunoda. After he was done hyping Microsoft's motion-control tech, he admitted that the "time for talk is over," and introduced a young girl.

We watched as the little girl spoke and played with her furry tiger friend. The cub responded to her every word and movement. When she asked the critter to fetch a jump rope,he did so obediently. Then the girl began swinging the jump rope, and if the rhythm was off, the tiger would get tripped up, oftentimes to hilarious results. One especially tricky jump was punctuated with a bullet time-esque slow motion shot. The way that jump rope interacted with the tiger's fur was particularly impressive. The demo concluded with the tiger compassionately licking the screen while the little girl ran away, from what we assume was an overdose of adorableness.

Also revealed is that there will be over 40 animals in Kinectimals, of which only cats have been revealed. Kudo also said that there will be over 30 ways to interact with the animals.

  • awwwwwwwww! so cute!

another very responsive "Kinect" game. and the little girl did a great job with the demonstration, too.

  • yay, it's the target audience for Kinect, insipid little girls who don't have money of their own, winrar!

  • I see what M$ is trying to do with Kinect: steal some of the Wii user base away.

  • Good presentation. Took me back to my days as a child. Kind of want to try this myself. XD

  • This was...possibly the weirdest thing i have ever witnessed. Cool idea, and the girl did do a good job with it, but cmon, buy a dog, way more interactive.

  • Mod

I don't care what anyone says, I'm very much interested and looking forward to this. It's too cute to not try. The fact that I can play hide and seek with my animal is awesome. Haters gonna hate, but that's why they don't have fun.

  • i mean how dumb it looks. ill admit the tech is nice but i almost gagged when she was pretending to be licked. noting like pretending your being licked to make you feel good.

  • I mean I understand the reasoning behind Kinect and Move to try and attract a wider audience, but pulling a Nintendo and leaving core gamers behind is not a solid plan for credibility...This was cool to an extent and I like the idea of a pet game, they can be fun, but why not just release something like Seaman where you can raise them and teach them to do things and speak...

also unrelated here that Star Wars game looks like total crap...a 3rd person rail game with lightsabers...way to go Lucas Arts...they really need to just work on one or two games at a time and focus up, stop cramming Vader and cliche star wars down our throat...thank god for games like KOTOR, anyone else notice that the best star wars games are no longer released by Lucas Arts

  • Kinectimals is a response to all those animal games on the wii.

  • There better be Bears or I am not buying, And the "Kinect" thing better come with the new "Xbox 360 Slim". Gosh *** I hope it's worth is. But I do trust Microsoft.

  • was a release date announced for this? my wife's eyes lit up wide when this game was showcased.

  • Cats don't follow orders! It's a lie I tell you! A LIE!

  • Yes, because if you are trying to sell a new product that will cost $150.00, why not go at it from the 'cute' angle?

    I agree with akbirdman.

  • How cute!  I doubt I'd jack with this.

  • I'm an 18-year old girl who plays some pretty hardcore video games. But I must say... This looks adorable.

  • The part when it was 'licking her face' was a little weird. I felt kinda awkward thinking a game expects you to behave like that.

  • As cute as that girl was, the whole licking thing was weird.  I'm beginning to wonder if the Wii even stands a chance anymore...

  • I will stick to real pets.  Love my dog.  If I ever wish to have a pet tiger I will check this out.

  • Kinectimals = fail
