Study Shows Less Than 10 Percent Of Gamers Plan To Purchase Natal, Move

by Annette Gonzalez on Jun 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM

Considering all the buzz generating about the PlayStation Move and 360's Natal, a recent study shows that the purchase intent among consumers is less than 10 percent for the new motion control devices.

OTX's GamePlan Insights tracking study polled 2,000 gamers between May 23 and June 5, 2010, and found that eight percent of 360 owners plan to buy Natal (average age: 25), and only six percent of PS3 owners plan to purchase Move (average age: 28). Of these gamers who do plan to purchase the peripherals, 25 percent plan to pre-order.

Our guess is these numbers represent the lack of information currently available on Natal and Move since the study shows that 15 percent of 360 and PS3 owners are aware of their console-specific devices. There will be plenty of announcements during E3 next week, at which point these numbers may very well change.

Finally, the study reveals the top five games the Natal and Move adopters are currently playing. Developers should take note:

Xbox 360/Natal

1. Gears of War 3 – X360 (47%)
2. Fable III – X360 (42%)
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops – X360 (38%)
4. Halo: Reach – X360 (34%)
5. Dead Space 2 – X360 (26%)

PlayStation 3/Move

1. LittleBigPlanet 2 – PS3 (42%)
2. Gran Turismo 5 – PS3 (32%)
3. SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs – PS3 (30%)
4. The Legend of Zelda 2 – Wii (26%)
5. Super Mario Galaxy 2 – Wii (21%)

360 and PS3 owners, think you might pick up a new motion controller this year? Or are you waiting for E3 announcements to make your decision?
