Study Shows Less Than 10 Percent Of Gamers Plan To Purchase Natal, Move

Considering all the buzz generating about the PlayStation Move and 360's Natal, a recent study shows that the purchase intent among consumers is less than 10 percent for the new motion control devices.

OTX's GamePlan Insights tracking study polled 2,000 gamers between May 23 and June 5, 2010, and found that eight percent of 360 owners plan to buy Natal (average age: 25), and only six percent of PS3 owners plan to purchase Move (average age: 28). Of these gamers who do plan to purchase the peripherals, 25 percent plan to pre-order.

Our guess is these numbers represent the lack of information currently available on Natal and Move since the study shows that 15 percent of 360 and PS3 owners are aware of their console-specific devices. There will be plenty of announcements during E3 next week, at which point these numbers may very well change.

Finally, the study reveals the top five games the Natal and Move adopters are currently playing. Developers should take note:

Xbox 360/Natal

1. Gears of War 3 – X360 (47%)
2. Fable III – X360 (42%)
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops – X360 (38%)
4. Halo: Reach – X360 (34%)
5. Dead Space 2 – X360 (26%)

PlayStation 3/Move

1. LittleBigPlanet 2 – PS3 (42%)
2. Gran Turismo 5 – PS3 (32%)
3. SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs – PS3 (30%)
4. The Legend of Zelda 2 – Wii (26%)
5. Super Mario Galaxy 2 – Wii (21%)

360 and PS3 owners, think you might pick up a new motion controller this year? Or are you waiting for E3 announcements to make your decision?

  • Yea the only reason I'd like Natal is to operate the dashboard controllerless, other than that I don't really care.

  • I just love the idea. It's about time we get a motion controller with graphics that don't give me headaches. As soon as it's affordable, I think I will pick it up.

  • Mod

My decision is made.  I'm completely ignoring Natal.  Even if they unveil an action packed FPS using Natal, I still won't bite.  Natal is the biggest mistake for the 360 since they decided to exclude an HD DVD drive.

  • I like how the 360 guys are stuck on their 360 games, and theres a few Wii games in the Move section.

I was thinking about purchasing the Move, But I wont if its too expensive, meaning more than a controller.

  • The move looks pretty cool.  I'll have to see if it works well with whatever games they put out.

  • the fact of the matter is, if i want motion controls, I can go to my Wii. Motion Controls are not the reason i got a ps3 and a 360, and i would argue that the majority of gamers (90% if i go by this poll) feel the same way.

As far as casual gamers go, i feel Nintendo's hold on the market is too strong for us to see any long-lasting, drastic changes.

  • I wont be getting it Natal unless it is very very impressive at E3.

  • This poll does not surprise me one bit. I sure don't play video games to MOVE. That's what reality is for.

  • Getting PS Move for sure.

  • i'm still hesitant, real hesitant. i don't want to play party/family games at all, but i'd love some deeper games (whatever happened to RE5 with Move compatibility?) looking forward to seeing more at E3

  • Nobody asked me! But yea, these figures are not even close to accurate... if I had to guess.

  • I personally think Natal will do great, if it can do what i have potentially seen at E3 last year, it can do well.

  • well, well i guess the bad mojo for the new future seems to not go away.. i mean come on natal, move ppl are just lazy and fat, im sure if natal operates like it should then of course fat lazy folks are not in to it.... cuz they aint gonna move like a fighting game would demand them to nun the less an adventure game hahaha lol... im pro for the natal i only own the 360 but move seems awesome as well compare that to the wii lol most of the ppl i know dont even use the nun-chucks for some of the hard core games like the mario and smash bros titles we use the game cube ones its ok fat and lazy ppl i don't blame yall

  • I'm going to wait until I see how the Move is working out before I purchase it. I think that it'll handle great but it won't compete with a traditional controller.

I also want to make sure that there is more games than Gran Turismo 5 to play with the Move that I actually want to play.

P.S. Why the heck are Wii titles listed under the PS Move?

  • I'm definitely in that 94% for Sony.

  • Wait, what? Currently playing Call of Duty Black Ops and Halo Reach? You mean planning on playing? But Super Mario Galaxy 2 is already out... this confuses me.

  • I love how so many of the "games adopters are currently playing" include games that aren't even released yet (Gears 3, Fable 3, Reach, Dead Space 2, Little Big Planet 2...) and games that just aren't (The Legend of Zelda 2? )

  • I'm just not that interested. I like playing games with a controller. It works. When I want a more 'interactive' title, I'll go hop on my Wii, that's why I bought it.

And I highly doubt that it will be worth the cost.

  • Only way I'm picking up Natal is if they come out with something good for it right away, otherwise it will be a wait and see. For me, I like the possibilities of Natal more, because I think Natal has better possibilities outside of gaming.

  • Too much great gaming to be had this Holiday season.  If I do gain some interest in Natal, I'll have to wait until sometime next year.
