Dreamcast Games Make A Digital Comeback

Today Sega has announced that it will bring classic Dreamcast titles to XBLA and PSN beginning later this year.

Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will be the first games made available, with the Sonic Adventure resurrection releasing this fall in time for the Dreamcast's 11th anniversary. Both will be shown at E3 next week.

“The Dreamcast is fondly remembered by a large community of dedicated fans as a console that was ahead of its time in terms of graphics, quality and online gaming” said Haruki Satomi, VP of Digital Business at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe. “There are few things that are more requested from us than making Dreamcast classics available for download in today’s digital market place. We’re very excited to begin offering gamers our beloved Dreamcast titles again on the current console systems.”

The Dreamcast downloadables will feature the same gameplay of their originals with enhanced visual quality and sound. Online leaderboards will also be implemented along with an Achievement/Trophy system unique to each game.

Before the Dreamcast met its early demise, the system launched more than 650 games. We wonder which others will be chosen to make its return to the current gen. My vote is to bring back Jet Grind Radio and Space Channel 5. Any Dreamcast favorites you'd like to see make a comeback?

  • Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 were the last good, or at least decent, Sonic games, so this is good news.

  • I have a reason to buy microsoft points again ^_^

  • Jet Set Radio!

  • FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dreamcast had some of the greatest games ever!!!

  • POWER STONE 2! POWER STONE 2!!!!

  • JET SET (or Grind, depending on where you're from) RADIO!

  • They definitely need to bring back Floigan Bros. That was an amazing game.

  • Rival Schools!!!

  • Wasn't Typing For The Dead a Dreamcast title?  That'd be a pain with a controller though.

  • Sonic Adventure 2 and Power Stone.

    Make it happen.

  • Skies of Arcadia would be fun to play too.

  • Yes Yes and more Yes woot!!!

  • Soul Calibur one of the few games i could play constantly and never get bored with also one one of the great fighting games on the Dreamcast along with the Power Stone Games.

  • skies of arcadia, shenmue and Bangai-O

i own the dreamcast versions for all three games but it would still be nice to see.

  • I never got the chance to play Sword of the Berserk...

  • I'd like to see the SPAWN game return, i liked the game but never got to play against anybody, it would be fun with online multiplayer.

  • I'm going to second or third the requests for power stone 2 returns as well as chu chu rocket and seaman...we have mics it wouldn't be that difficult...bring back seaman...

  • Zombie Revenge!  I remember the ZR Replay that GIO did.  That game was awesome!!!

I'm kidding.  But it's great to see Sega bringing DC games back. :)

  • Phantasy Star Online Ver. 2 and I'm sold. Add online play...and the memories of 56k online multiplayer resurface. =) It's pretty stale now but it's a game I'd really like to play again with friends.

Shenmue was interesting but I never finished it. Most games I have on my dreamcast were remade or have sequels that are arguably better...

Worm's Armageddon, Virtua Tennis, Street Fighter 3:Third Strike...

Jet Grind Radio was a great experience as well.
