Portal 2 Delayed

In a press release titled "Valve Announces Making Games Is Hard," the company reveals that Portal 2 has been pushed back to 2011. While this news will surely disappoint fans eager to jump back into the Aperture Science lab, Valve announced the move with humor typical of the company. The press release reads:

Aperture Science, doing business as Aperture Laboratories LLC, in partnership with Valve today announced the successful completion of an ethics-review-panel-supervised release date restructuring process. Portal 2, the sequel to the ground-breaking title that earned over 30 Game of the Year awards despite missing its original ship date, is now targeted for a 2011 release.

Representatives from both companies acknowledged that public safety concerns factored into the decision. They went on to say that even though Portal 2 will arrive slightly later than planned, all life on earth won't instantaneously stop as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light, which is what would happen should a rip ever appear in the fabric of Valve Time.

"Also, the game will be even better," they added, missing a historic opportunity to create the first product delay press release to mention that a product is being delayed to make it worse.

Portal fans, what are your thoughts on the delay?

    -troll ends here-

Shouldve done something at E3 with gLaDos saying it wasnt coming out
  • As my good friend Guy would proclaim after defeat, "Profound Sadness!"...ok not really, it's ok to save some great titles for next year.

  • Episode 3 FTW

  • lol. best delay announcement ever.

at least it helps take some of the sting off
  • Best press release ever. Despite hating on the PS3, I still love them.

  • Maybe they'll use that time to release it on the ps3 also. One can only hope...

  • I would rather wait for a huge game than for it to be rushed to my doorstep.

  • I is sad.

  • @ WS-N: I'm with you. Take all the time you need Valve, we trust you to make the best game possible. Don't disappoint us.

  • Honestly, given their reputation, Aperture Science would delay a game to make it worse, wouldn't they?

    Either way, fiddlesticks.

  • I don't mind delays... if it actually results in a better game.

For example, I don't think Blizzard has EVER met a release date, yet they continuously produce quality games.

  • dont care. just glad i got portal 1 for free.

  • Valve delaying a game? That is brand new information.

  • I thought Valve would be better than that. That is, announcing a release date unless they're sure if they can put it out by that time.

  • awe poo...

  • Boo.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

  • Now that is how you break bad news to people.

  • I would almost be satisfied with never playing Portal 2 if it meant reading one of these every week.

  • It would have been bad, but the humor makes it good.
