Read 100 Classic Books On DS (Or Read Them For Free Everywhere Else)

by Annette Gonzalez on Jun 08, 2010 at 02:00 PM

We just got a brand spanking new DS cartridge at the Game Informer office that goes by the title 100 Classic Books. It doesn't get much more self-explanatory than that. For $19.99 you'll get (surprise!) 100 Classic Books packed into a DS cartridge for your reading pleasure. The DS is held vertically like a book and you'll flip through the pages of classics such as Pride and Prejudice, The Jungle Book, Phantom of the Opera, and more using your stylus. If you want to burn some DS battery life and 20 bucks on reading through these novels knock yourself out. Or, you can just give me $20 and I'll tell you how to get these classics and more for free ninety free.

Don't get me wrong, there may be some of you who want to take a few books with you on flights or road trips and only have a DS at your disposal. However, for a recession-proof alternative, you can easily dig through Google Books to find these public domain titles online. In full. For free. Since most books that have reached classic status have expired copyright agreements, they are free to the public. Free smartphone apps such as "Classics" on iPhone or just browsing Google Books using mobile web offer the same convenience. E-readers like Amazon's Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook offer free classics as well. Or you simply hate reading and probably ignored this post altogether.

100 Classic Books will be available June 15. Thousands of classic books will be available forever.
