Level-5 Could Self-Publish Future Layton Titles

by Ben Reeves on Jun 04, 2010 at 12:33 PM

Japanese Developer Level-5 seems to have some big plans in the works. Not only did the studio just announce that they would be opening a new office in the US, but now it looks like the developer might break its publishing ties with Nintendo and release future Professor Layton games on it’s own.

Level-5 currently handles publishing duties for the Professor Layton titles in Japan, while Nintendo has taken over the game’s release in the larger global market. But as Develop-online has recently reported, a Gamebusiness.jp interview with Level-5’s Akihiro Hino revealed that Level-5 could be planning to release future games under it’s own power. In fact, this is probably what Level-5's new office will be working on. Maybe this also means the US will be able to catch up to Japan's release schedule, considering Japan is getting it's fifth Layton title this fall, and we're still waiting for a release date for number three.

Personally, we don’t care who’s doing it, as long as Level-5 keeps feeding our puzzle addiction.
