Free-To-Play Clone Wars MMO Coming From Sony Online

This isn't the Star Wars MMO you're looking for. On the other hand, it's not intended to be. Sony Online Entertainment is developing and publishing Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures on PC for the younger set, according to a press release. The game is free to play, but monthly subscriptions and microtransactions will both be available to separate your kids from their allowances.

Clone Wars Adventures looks to be built on the FreeRealms model. The action takes place in minigames like Droid Programming and Speeder Bike Racing, as well as in the embedded card game. Much of the content revolves around customizing your avatar, either through earning rewards (new costumes, pets, etc.) in-game or purchasing them through the cash shop. Ultimately, you can deck out your player house with trophies and assorted goodies and invite your virtual friends to come over and ogle your electronic accomplishments.

Playing online dress-up and kicking the tires on a bunch of minigames may not sound like the next big thing to you, but this is targeted at younger gamers who haven't quite grown into God of War yet. Parents have a number of controls at their disposal, from setting playtime limits to restricting chat to limited, canned messages.

SOE has yet to announce a release date for Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures.

  • first. wow

  • i like it, its a safe way to get kids started with online gaming... hopefully it'll help with the younger crowd online now, its so fun to here kids cursing at me... but very wrong
  • With The Old Republic looming ahead I don't care about a different MMO in the slightest.

  • Hey, maybe a parent can play The Old Republic and have their kid next to them playing this.  I think that would be pretty cool.

  • Gez, they are even pushing another series of the Clone Wars on Cartoon Network.... Theres probably more hours of Clone Wars filler series than there is actual movies.

  • Hmmmmmm.... being the big starwars fan I am, I have to say I am kind of dissappointed, I guess since the Clone Wars is targetting younglings though it shouldn't be too bad, for them at least. I am just too excited for SW:TOr to care about this.
  • i never liked this kinds of games anyway

  • Sony get off the Star Wars MMOs, you ruined Galaxies by destroying everything about it that made it feel like a real Star Wars experience with the New Experience *** and now you want to ruin the clone Wars too

  • If it's based on the god awful animated movie/series then I'll pass.

  • When will this awful series just go away.   :(

  • wow just wow

  • haha wow. They better release it soon so people will have time to wipe it from their minds before TOR comes out next year...

  • This is really cool. I'm going to check this out, the whole Clone Wars series is awesome so I think I will like this but I really dislike FreeRealms so I'm not entirely sure. Can't wait till KOTOR!!!
  • Sounds like more fun than the similar-in-theme Littlest Pet Shop Online and Club Penguin.

  • Dude, it's star wars, so by obligation alone I must play it. But still, I tread lightly. Any game that forces me to "team up" with adolescence players makes me cringe a little.

  • waiting for old republic

  • Meh. Cool that it is free. I guess Sony is really pushing the optional price method lately.

  • lol starwars clone wars adventures. ..  anything with adventures in it makes it a kids game

  • hmm. not sure how i feel about this. i hate it, i... i just have to
