Blog Herding: Editor And Reader Picks 5/30

by Annette Gonzalez on May 30, 2010 at 07:30 AM

As a result of a bit of inter-office shuffling and construction we broke our regular Thursday herd post tradition, however we're back on this awesome Sunday afternoon for our latest installment. We'll resume to our regular Thursday posts this week. Read on to check out our picks. Did your posts make the cut?

Red Dead First Impressions: Not What I Expected
"I fully expected to play Red Dead like I was Billy the Kid – so how did I end up like Billy the Leave-Me-Alone-I’m-Trying-To-Pick-Wild-Flowers?" Why does Jeff M. feel inclined to play as a flower-picking cowboy on the right side of the law? Read his post to find out.

Can You See Me Now

"I noticed the [Game Informer] review titled “Mario Shines in Epic Sequel” accompanied by a picture of Mario riding Yoshi and reaching out for a Star Power-Up. When I saw Mario, it made me think of some of my favorite Mario moments. When I think of Mario and my favorite Mario moments, I think of his Tanooki Suit. And when I think of Mario and his Tanooki Suit, I think of him being able to turn into a statue.  And when I think of Mario turning into a statue, I think of other games that have clever disguises." GIO community member Saint takes a look at other games with get-ups that makes the wearer appear invisible. He also provides a few helpful blogging tips worth giving a look.

The Deskside: Episode 201

Nick's desk-inspired comic strip returns with a vengeance. It is now set in a world where it's always Bieber time.

Games Into Film And Why It Doesn't Work

The post title says it all. GIO member Enigma says games and movies are completely different media, therefore games cannot be adapted into another medium in which it doesn't fit. Do you agree? Check out his post and provide your two cents in the comments section.

CosBlog # 29: Twilight Princess Two-For-One

To make up for the recent absence of Meagan's CosBlog, she provides a two-for. Behold the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess costuming extravaganza. For the full suite of CosBlog posts, check out the official hub.

The Lonely Gamer...

...has crummy internet offerings in his hometown. GIO community member legion discusses the woes of missing out on online gaming. Any others out there facing similar issues?

Show Me The Maps! (And Guns!)
"...in the past few weeks, the game has started sliding down the ranks. It’s not just being usurped by shiny new titles like Red Dead Redemption, either. From April 19 to May 3, BC2 fell to the number seven slot behind older games like Call of Duty: World at War and Halo 3: ODST. There’s no shame in placing behind the perennial big dogs like Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3, but when you start slipping behind other titles from these franchises it’s worth questioning why such a brilliant multiplayer game isn’t demonstrating the same traction as the big guns." Bertz explores why Battlefield players just aren't playing anymore.

The Play, Create, Share Revolution
With the recent release of ModNation Racers, GIO community member linebacker40 tackles the topic of custom creation and says user-created content "is the future" and "a great addition to the gaming universe." I think we can all agree on that. Anyone disagree?

Blur vs. Split/Second

Kato reflects on his reviews for both games and pits these two recently huge racing titles against one another. Which one will you buy?
