Memorial Day Weekend Warrior 05/28/10

by Annette Gonzalez on May 28, 2010 at 02:00 PM

Memorial Day commemorates the brave men and women who have died while in military service, which will be observed this Monday for a three-day weekend. Check out what we're playing this holiday, then head over to the comments section to let us know what's on your play list.

Reiner: I've been spending far too much time outside lately. My neighbors now recognize who I am, local dogs don't bark at me any more, and I'm pretty sure a squirrel wanted to jump up onto my shoulder. I'm putting an end to this nonsense. Three straight days of Red Dead Redemption should get me back into my video game groove. Any spare time I have will go to Split/Second, Blur, and Alpha Protocol.

Helgeson: Red Dead Redemption. Going to see the Twins. Getting awesome. Keeping it real. Swimming.

Juba: I'm finally playing my Wii again, but it's not for Super Mario Galaxy 2. I started A Boy and his Blob this week, so I'm hoping to get some of that played between bouts of Red Dead single- and multiplayer. Also, I've been re-watching Arrested Development on Netflix streaming, so I'll probably polish that off.

Jeff C: My folks are in town, so I probably won’t play much of anything. I might be able to get my dad to play Forza 3 because he knows how to use a steering wheel, but everything else will probably be too confusing for him. He’s been saying that video games make him nervous for the past few decades, so I don’t expect to convert him anytime soon. I’m going to try to sneak in some Red Dead Redemption multiplayer though because it is fun and I like to have fun.

Meagan: I'm hitting the lake this weekend, so the bulk of my entertainment consumption will involve reading comics beach-side. However, Alan Wake has me considering bringing my 360 along for the ride. If I do, I've also got a slew of XBLA titles to power through - most of them nostalgic in nature. Sun, sand, and survival horror sounds like a good weekend combination to me.

Sean: First, my thanks to our troops and their friends and families - this weekend is about you guys, and I couldn't be more thankful for your service. For me, when I'm not on the boat or grilling, there is going to be a lot of Red Dead Redemption happening. While I have your attention - a quick shout out to Dave and Elise McDonald for getting hitched, and my thanks for everyone in the Englewood, FL crew for hanging out with me and my wife last week. Hopefully I've inspired a few of you to join me on the frontier.

Dan: Planning on taking it easy this weekend, considering there will probably be plenty of drinking on Memorial Day. If the weather keeps up the way it has lately, I'm hoping to spend some time by the lake at some point. As far as gaming, nothing has been able to pry me away from Red Dead Redemption since it came out, and I don't see that changing at all in the near future.

Annette: Red Dead Redemption. I finally got my hands on a copy of the game and look forward to spending the next three days finally digging into missions. I've spent the first few hours riding horses off the beaten path playing bounty hunter, helping out a few strangers, and picking flowers on the way. Whenever a game tells me to go right I go left. That's just how I roll. On a non-gaming note I started reading Scott Pilgrim, so I'm spending some time in between gaming getting through the next couple of books. I might get out the confines of my apartment to interact with people and catch some sun, but between Minneapolis and the frontier, the frontier seems a whole lot more interesting to me right now.

Jeff M: This weekend I'm going to play so much Red Dead Redemption that I'll probably have a mental breakdown and become convinced that I'm actually a cowboy in real life, and that my neighbor's dog is a wild horse that needs lassoing. Which will be different from every other weekend when I lasso my neighbor's dog for no other reason than that it's really funny.

That's it for us. What are you playing this weekend?
