PlayStation Home Out of Beta This Holiday

by Matthew Kato on May 27, 2010 at 11:20 AM

This just in from the I Thought That Already Happened File: PlayStation 3's social networking and "stuff" platform, Home, takes off the training wheels this winter.

Kirk Ewing, a developer for virtual content creator Veemee (who made Home's Original V Store and spaces for companies like Audi), recently told an audience at the Game in Scotland event that Sony plans to take Home out of beta this December, according to play.tm. Ewing also staunchly defended Home, declaring, "Most people think Home is s---. I'm here to say that it's not." He also claimed that one-third of PS3 users use the service.

Home started its open beta on December 11, 2008, and we've no doubt that Sony's lengthy beta program has generated tons of suggestions of how it could improve. Let's hope that its official launch is a step towards Home achieving its potential. We expect to hear more about Home's full debut at next month's E3.
