Ubisoft’s New Toronto Office Taking On Next Splinter Cell

Gamasutra has posted a profile of Ubisoft’s latest studio, Ubisoft Toronto, and it’s a great read for anyone interested in the company’s games or just game development in general. Ubisoft announced the formation of the studio about a year ago, but the company hasn’t divulged much information about Ubisoft Toronto since. Now they’re talking, with confirmation that the studio will be taking on development of the next Splinter Cell game.

"All of the core team has relocated with me from Montreal," said studio manager Jade Raymond. "Where you develop a game does have an impact on who it appeals to... When you think of it like that, I think the Splinter Cell franchise fits Toronto."

It’s just a passing reference, with nothing in the way of game details, timeframe, platform or anything else, but it’s something.

    Yes , PS3 needs Splinter Cell . It's stupid to lock out that big of a chunk of gamers .

    Thankfully, Splinter Cell creator Matheau Ferland is heading up Toronto, if I recall correctly. So he can keep a watchful eye on his baby.

    Just get that 24-obsessed Beland off the project and we're good.

    Sweet, if its all still the same guys/girls from Montreal then the series will still be top notch. I was a bit worried when I saw the title.

    Grow up. Splinter Cell isn't for Sony and should never be for Sony. Seriously, you guys have Killzone, Uncharted, and inFAMOUS. Xbox owners aren't entitled to an actual good series?

    Well hopefully someone with veteran status with the series can watch over them. We don't want amateurs, or mostly, be screwing up a already somewhat downhill franchise. Although I thought Conviction was pretty sweet.

    I love the old SC like Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow, but I definitely want SC to keep the gameplay just like that in Conviction... The scene with Vic in the end has gotten me so pumped for the next it's not even right.
