Sonic 4 Delay, New Platform Revealed

by Tim Turi on May 20, 2010 at 12:33 PM

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 was supposed to come out next month. After continual info leaks, news on the game all but screeched to a halt. Now we learn that the game has been pushed back to later this year, and that the game will also be releasing for iPhone.

"Sega is incredibly happy at the overwhelmingly positive response to Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I  from both press and fans around the world, and wants to ensure that we’re delivering the best Sonic experience possible," Sega stated in a press release. "With this dedication to quality and the Sonic experience in mind, SEGA has decided to extend the development of the game, and will now release Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I in the latter half of 2010."

Announcement of the game's iPhone release comes in addition to previously announced 360, PS3, and Wii versions.

If you’re anything like me (that is, a Sonic fan), then you’re pleased to learn that Sega is willing to push back a game’s release to improve its quality. Sonic 4’s release means a lot only to Sega, but also to Sonics fans and doubters. Sega needs to ensure than everyone is blown away by the game, lest everyone believe the blue hedgehog is forever doomed.
