The lights are on
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 was supposed to come out next month. After continual info leaks, news on the game all but screeched to a halt. Now we learn that the game has been pushed back to later this year, and that the game will also be releasing for iPhone."Sega is incredibly happy at the overwhelmingly positive response to Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I from both press and fans around the world, and wants to ensure that we’re delivering the best Sonic experience possible," Sega stated in a press release. "With this dedication to quality and the Sonic experience in mind, SEGA has decided to extend the development of the game, and will now release Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I in the latter half of 2010."
Announcement of the game's iPhone release comes in addition to previously announced 360, PS3, and Wii versions. If you’re anything like me (that is, a Sonic fan), then you’re pleased to learn that Sega is willing to push back a game’s release to improve its quality. Sonic 4’s release means a lot only to Sega, but also to Sonics fans and doubters. Sega needs to ensure than everyone is blown away by the game, lest everyone believe the blue hedgehog is forever doomed.

Sweet! Looks like the first sonic game in a while that won't suck. I can't wait!
Sucks about the delay, but I do want the best Sonic experiance possible.
Take your time, Sega. It's been 38 years since the last real Sonic game, we can wait a few more weeks.
Why not give an extra window for things to get done right? Why limit themselves when more can be done?
My business has leeway that some scoff at for monetary reasons but all our jobs come with 100% quality and better payoffs earning the trust and business of our growing community!
I can't wait. There goes some of my money.
the irony is that the first new Sonic game in years that won't suck is also a Sonic game that hasn't changed anything gameplay wise since the original ones other than it's cosmetic appearance (ie, being in HD).
Too bad for Sonic fans.At least the quality will be good.
I am actually really, REALLY happy to hear that - for once - SEGA is giving a promising game (and a Sonic game no less) some extra time for TLC and polish instead of pushing it out the door to make some bank for the quarter. That kinda business model and thinking has led to them releasing so many ruinous games as of late; everything from Golden Axe and Sonic and the Black Knight to Iron Man.
So it's nice to see them do things right, instead of merely what's profitable. They must really be in trouble if they're acknowledging that they need to change the ways they do things...
At any rate. Rocket Knight just came out and it's awesome. While I would LOVE to see Sonic 4 come out soon thereafter for that one-two punch of awesome 90's gaming platforming rodent reboots, I can definitely just hang onto Sparkster for now. Whenever you come back Sonic, it'll be awesome. Just make sure of that.
Cool. Sonic. Hope it is not that expensive.
I welcome them taking as much time as they need to nail it. No one is dying for a new Sonic anyway.
I still have Sonic 1 and 2 to play while I wait for this to come out. As Gabe Newell once said
"I'd rather be known for late games than bad games"
Can't wait for the release Sega.
@ghostpig at first i was like man 38 years has it realy been that long? and then i was like wait im not even 30.but getting back on topic i agree take your time sega.
cool now it is going to look bad on the iphone too. i really dont have any faith in the graphics being any good. i wasnt going to buy it so the delay doesnt matter but i might now on the iphone
Dang I don't wanna wait...have we gotten a price estimate yet?
I'm anxious for the release, but I don't have a problem with a slight delay. I've been waiting over a decade, a few more months won't kill me. I am a little confused about the iPhone announcement. It doesn't seem like an appropriate platform for the high-speed, quick reaction gameplay. Whatever, I can play it on a real gaming machine.
its only a few weeks
well Omegaspartan08, If it ain't broke don't fix it.
yeah its doomed, it had to go back to its roots to get everyone hyped, while mario is moving foward, kinda lame, maybe sonic team could ask nintendo for some pointers
If they need time to finally make a great Sonic game, I can wait.
