Advanced Class System Revealed For Star Wars: The Old Republic

by Ben Reeves on May 14, 2010 at 10:35 AM

Anyone who’s had their eyes glued to their monitor waiting for news regarding BioWare’s upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic can finally blink for a second. The developer just announced a new Advanced Class System for the game, and it sounds awesome.

With this system players will have access to unique skills and abilities, allowing for more flexibility during character customization.

“For example, all Smugglers are lucky, opportunistic swindlers,” explains the game’s official site. “But, do you want to be the kind of Smuggler that sneaks into the middle of a firefight and quickly blasts away at an opponent from point-blank range? Or do you want to be the kind that keeps to the outskirts of the battle, strategically picking your targets from a distance?”

Every class in the game will feature two advances classes to choose between as you level up, but choose carefully, as you can only have one advanced class active. Essentially, this system seems similar to talent specialization in World of Warcraft or sub-classes in other RPGs, although it's unclear if you'll be able to go back and reset your advanced class after choosing it.

If you want to read more, the full announcement can be seen on The Old Republic’s official site.
