Get Paid To Play Single-Player Games This June

Remember “Pimp My Ride,” that TV show about turning crusty old jalopies into shiny, over-the-top whips? Remember how almost every car ended up with an Xbox crammed into the trunk with built-in HDTVs? Cabe Sipes, fabricator on “Pimp My Ride,” transformed those wrecked autos into awesome rides. He also apparently gives a *** about gaming, and has formed Pay Back Games. PBG is an online company that offers cash prizes for gamers competing in single-player gaming tournaments.

You read that right. Single-player video game tournaments. No longer will the Halo kidz hog the spotlight with their Slayer tournaments. You can create an account on PBG to earn cold, hard moolah by flexing your skill. Average prizes from PBG are in the $50 range. Entry fees for tournaments are about $7 (to cover referee fees and matchmaking). Players can access their winnings from the site whenever they want for some fast money.

According to the press release, games will take an average of 10 to 20 minutes to play, and gamers will cycles through about 4 to 10 games a night.

Here are the games teased in the video:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Juiced 2
  • Call of Duty: World at War
  • UFC Undisputed 2010
  • Madden 10
  • Fifa 10

Check in Pay Back Game’s website as the June 2010 launch date approaches.

  • Sounds like a lame version of Gamebattles. Count me out.

  • black ops?

  • why is world at war in here? isn't black ops the replacement for it? oh well. sounds kinda interesting, depends on how convenient it is to enter and keep in it...

  • Wait, why Juiced 2?

  • Defiantly not gamebattles! The main purpose of our company is we are single player focused. You don’t have to wait on 11 other people to be ready at a certain time to play. If you want to play then play and make some money. If your friends and you all think you’re the best then all of you can sign up for the same match and really find out who gets talk smack. We are simplifying the process and not running on any kind of honor system. We are physically in the game with you and you can speak to us before and after the game without having to wait on any type of electronic response.

Each player will have their own profile page which will show their winnings and their score for each game. At the end of the year we will be signing a certain number of players with the highest scores to be professional gamers which will earn you a steady paycheck to train and will go on our 6 city tour next year.

Black Ops is definitely going to be on our site the day it releases and when everybody is a noob. We are also taking requests for games to host and based on the number of requests we will run them.

We have a lot of things in the works and they are all geared towards making gaming tournaments overall easier and less complicated. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and we look forward to seeing you in future matches.

  • World at War is a very popular game and there are a ton of people that wanted it. If we notice matches are not being filled we will pull it from our line up. We can add a game and remove a game within 24 hours of making a decision.

Now, Juiced 2 is there but because of a non-disclosure agreement I can’t say why.........teaser maybe?

Let’s just say it may be worth brushing up on your Juiced 2 skills.

  • when im 18 im sigining up....

  • That might be difficult to do, because I don't have any Juiced 2 skills. But I still think this all sounds pretty cool, and I'm interested to look into it.

  • i will not waste my time. when gaming becomes competition, i'm out!

  • That’s all we ask....give us look and see if you like it. We will also be running free games with sponsor prizes and we will be hosting free practice matches for players to brush up on their skills. As of now we are looking to host at least 1 to 2 free games with prizes and the same with practice matches. Who knows maybe a couple of celebrity's will play with you....or would you rather dominate a Playboy playmate? Trust us, this will be fun and we will listen to ALL comments and feedback to make it as positive as possible for everyone.

  • I am a little confused on where the "single player video game" part comes in? When you speak about it you make it sound like these will be normal tournaments with multiple people, the only difference being instead of having teams of people that may or may not know each other, it will be a bunch of random people competing?

When you say "single player video game" i picture people trying to beat a specific goal in an actual "single player" video game, or at the least the single player element of a game. For example posting up the fastest track time on a certain track in Forza, or running the training course in Modern Warfare 2 quicker than any other person
  •  I need some clarification on this. "Single-player" means just that, single player.. Is this going to be a sort of 1v1, or FFA? Or are you going to have one person jump with x amount of other people to form a "team" of random individuals?

The concept seems great but I don't like the idea that this will be strictly 1v1/FFA or being forced to join a team of random people. Gamebattles is fine and all but I like the idea of a monetary reward.. But I don't like the idea of this "single-player" aspect.. at least until it's clarified.

  • I'm still feeling firmly meh about this. How the *** can you have competitive single player tournaments? Do you mean free for all?

  • yea. right. "single" player. when they said single player, i thought they actually meant single player. these are just dudes playing multiplayer games with one controller.

  • Single player refers to Free For All type games. No teams or death matches only you against everyone else. Same as racing games, very simple, if 4 people are racing 4 laps the first person over the finish line after 4 wins. No silly brackets or ladders just straight up game play. The only time we will have ladders is when we have large tournaments that have upwards of $1000 cash prizes or sporting events like FIFA and Madden.
Our main focus is first person shooter free for all type matches though and that will be the bulk of our hosted games. Come in, win and 10 minutes later your $50 richer.......simple.
  • After evaluating this a bit more I've come to a realization.

Both Call of Duty games are Treyarch games, which means they likely can't secure the rights for any Infinity Ward (quality CoD) titles at the moment. Likely conflict with MLG, which while I might think that Gamebatlles is complete and utter BS, MLG is quality competition.

Next you look at the other titles:

Juiced 2. Did anyone actually play this game. US sales for both systems are under half a million for this one. Judging by the comment left by our very own personal bulletin board below, I'd guess they are planning to release a sequel and because nothing has been announced yet, he can't comment on why this game was selected. Personally, I could care less if they are trying to build hype for a sequel, I have no interest in this title whatsoever.

UFC Undisputed 2010. Last years title was completely lackluster and really was a failure as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't pick this title up again, even if you paid me.

Madden 10. Seriously, can we try to justify the ever declining beast that is Madden any more? Madden hasn't been good in years and no tournament is ever going to change that fact.

Fifa 10. Yep, a soccer game in the US. Isn't there a cricket game out there you could have thrown on the list.

Then we look carefully at the end of the video. "Noobs WERE harmed in the making of this video." I think that pretty much sums up how lame this sounds.

    Enjoy your gamebattles wannabe.

  • I would love to get paid to play games. Too bad I suck really, really bad at all of the above games.

    Edit: @Demon Ragnarok

North America is the No. 2 market for the EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer franchise, second only to the U.K. and surpassing other soccer-crazed countries such as Spain and Germany.

Just because YOU don't like it, doesn't mean other people don't play it.
  • I am looking forward to it!  Demon Ragnarok just sounds like one of those people that bashes things before he tries them.  Hell, the website isn't even out yet and hes already trash talking.   Sounds like he should put up or shut up.  I will enjoy handing it to people like him!

  • odd ... would be fun to watch though

  • I don't think so...Single Player Tournaments?  Really?
