The lights are on
In a move that shines a ray of hope on several assumed dead titles, Warner Bros Interactive registered four curious web domains last week. Among the secured URLs is career-criminal.com. gauntletds.com, gauntletthegame.com, and eclipse-vegas.com. All URLs are locked in for the next two years. The stable of projects were assumed abandoned when Warner purchased Midway for $49 million last year. The purchase gave Warner ownership over Midway’s flagship IPs, such as Mortal Kombat, Wheelman, Gauntlet, Joust, Spy Hunter, and Area 51. While the registration of the web addresses could be a simple move to prevent URL squatters, it will be interesting to see if these games will be resuscitated. We’ve been particularly curious about the fate of This is Vegas since we first saw it a few years back. [Superannuation Via GameSpot]
Interesting. I wonder what this holds in store for Mortal Kombat. I vote they take it back to it's roots. But then again, that seems as lazy as all the new horror movie reboots. Just have to wait and see what happens.
A new Spy Hunter could be fun. Watching trailers for Splitsecond makes me wonder what would be possible...
I have to agree with theopenaffinity. They should do a bit of fan service with Mortal Kombat by bringing MK 2 or 3 to the xbox live arcade and PSN. Get us all hooked on the series again before releasing a new title.
Maybe next it will be Mortal Kombat vs Marvel Universe. I love MK but the games are getting worse and worse. Give me MKII any day!
I was always watching for info on This is Vegas too, that was a really disappointing cancellation. Here's hoping, eh?
I will be very excited to see some revival titles of MK and especially liking the gauntletds.com...
I would love to see an updated version of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, I played that on PS2 constantly :)
@Warbuff
Mortal Kombat 2 is on PSN, Ultimate MK 3 is on XBLA.
@ Dan: Well, UMK3 used to be on XBLA. After Midway went under, it was taken off without any warning. It's still playable, but only if you got it ahead of time :-(
Dunno about MK2 though; I don't have a PS3 yet. That being said, it may be wise to check to see if it suffered the same fate...
@ Vote 4 Pedro
Still on there, has I can't remember what it is under though.
I've already excepted Mortal Kombat's death for what it is.
soo... is that Nathan Drake in Vegas?
New Gauntlet game would be awesome.
Mortal Kombat HD remake!
dumb i was thinking this was for the Dead or Alive game series.
None of those sound interesting.
@ BlackHeartedWolf: Oh, it is? My bad then *'_'*
I'll have to look for it and see if I can't persuade a couple of my friends to download it. I need someone to burn alive!!!
I'd like to see more on the Vegas title, it had potential to be interesting.
Also, wasn't Mortal Kombat 9 already announced? I swear it was, it was like a month or two ago, I think there's one in the works already. I have high hopes for it, now that Midway isn't doing it I hope it can surpass MKvDC.
I really don't care about the rest of the franchises though. Gauntlet was fun back in the day, but that gameplay is so outdated now. Midway's IP were all becoming old and no longer relevant, and they hadn't come up with a quality new one in a while. It's no shocker that they died...
