Take A Peek At Bad Company 2’s New Co-op Mode

by Jeff Cork on May 12, 2010 at 03:30 AM

At long last, co-op is coming to Battlefield: Bad Company. EA has announced that a new mode, called onslaught, will be hitting Bad Company 2 soon on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Interestingly, there’s no mention of a PC version in the news release. What is onslaught all about? The accompanying trailer shows a lot of guys shooting at other guys, which isn’t exactly helpful. Fortunately, EA was also kind enough to pass along some details.

In onslaught mode, up to four players team up to complete objectives in retooled versions of the Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes, and Nelson Bay maps. Each of the maps has a specific objective, and players have to work together against AI to fulfill those tasks. For example, Atacama Desert has a vehicular focus while Nelson Bay is more about a traditional assault. Areas have been tweaked to change up time of day, add vehicles, and more. The mode will have its own dedicated leaderboards, so players will be able to see how their tactics stack up against the world at large.

The news release danced right around the game’s VIP program, which has been the way that players have been able to acquire free postlaunch DLC. Either that was an oversight, or players will have to crack open their wallets if they want to check out onslaught. We’ll let you know when we get that information.
