Capcom Working On Facebook Games

by Ben Reeves on May 12, 2010 at 07:22 AM

With the success of social media games like Mafia Wars and Farmville, we shouldn’t be surprised that big game publishers are jumping onboard the social media train. It looks like the next game developer to start working on Facebook applications will be Capcom, which has already promised to release a Facebook game before the end of the fiscal year.

“Gaming on social networks is poised to impact the traditional video game industry and is a presence that cannot be ignored,” Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto told Businessweek in a recent interview. “We have to make our move.”

As the casual market continues to mature and smaller iPhone-like applications become more profitable, we shouldn’t be surprised to see more and more big game publishers follow this trend. Companies like EA and 2K Games have already released Facebook apps. As long as this doesn’t interfere with Capcom’s ability to release Resident Evil and Dead Rising titles, we’re fine with it.
