Weekend Warrior 05/07/10

by Annette Gonzalez on May 07, 2010 at 01:30 PM

Happy Mother's Day weekend! We've got a wide variety of games on the docket this weekend including upcoming releases and favorites of yesteryear. Which ones? Read on to find out, then head over to the comments section and let us know what you're playing this weekend.

Jeff C: I finally wrapped up The Saboteur last weekend, so I’m bouncing back over to Just Cause 2. I messed around with the DLC for a little while, and I love the thruster-enhanced parachute. I wish Avalanche and Eidos would patch the black-market interface, though. Not being able to buy more than one weapon at a time is ridiculous, and having to skip a cutscene every time I want to fast-travel somewhere is getting on my nerves. At least I can vent my frustrations on the world once I land. Oh yeah. I’ll play a bunch of Alan Wake, too.

Joe: Having finished both Alan Wake and Deadly Premonition on my own time this week, I actually need to play a game for work this weekend. Fortunately, that game is Alpha Protocol, so I'm not complaining.

Bryan: I'm driving to South Dakota this weekend to help paint the entirety of my parents' new place. Maybe I'll squeeze in some Flight Control and Puzzle Quest on iPhone.

Sean: This weekend I'm going to say thanks to my mother-in-law by fixing her TV. I'm also once again not going to a Twins game :-(  Oh, games. Um.  Just Cause 2, MLB '10: The Show, Final Fantasy XIII, Gears of War 2, Fable 2, or Castle Crashers may be played. Definitely will put time into the StarCraft II beta and my latest PC game craze, Civilization IV. Yay, moms!

Jeff A: The season premiere of Friday Night Lights is the definite highlight of my weekend. I still can't believe that show has managed to say on the air up to this point. Favorite show of all-time, no question about it. Can't wait. Other than that I'll be hoping to finally finish up Spirit Tracks as I've been slowly picking away at it for months now. The funny thing is I'm really enjoying it so why is it taking me so long to finish?! It could be Borderlands' fault. I'm still wasting my life away messing around in that game. Thanks Secret Armory of General Knoxx. Thanks Zombie Island of Dr. Ned. Thanks increased level cap. Thanks mindless, violent fun. Thanks. So once I can get those two games out of my system I'll have a whole slew of great games staring me in the face: Darksiders, BioShock 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Heavy Rain, Mario Galaxy, and I just picked up Chrono Trigger for the DS. I'm an idiot.

Annette: Still making progress through Mass Effect. Totally hooked. As much as I just wanted to simply plow through the first game, I'm often side tracked by side quests that I find are just as engaging as main plot events. My only complaint: the Mako f-ing sucks. At any rate I suspect I'll be on to the sequel in just a few days. During gameplay breaks I plan on reading through Preacher. I've heard nothing but great things so I can't wait to crack it open! Finally I'm kind of bummed out that I won't spend Mother's Day in Chicago with my family so quick shout out to my mom! LOVE YOU!!!

Bertz: I've reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup captaining the United States (we just smoked Brazil 4-0!) in FIFA World Cup 10, so now it's time to cut the French down to size. I haven't played much FIFA in recent years simply due to games overload, so I'm loving the dribbling controls, jostling, and unpredictability on the pitch. Once I've secured the World Cup and Golden Boot trophies, I'll be exacting revenge as Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Dan: On top of my ongoing time with Super Street Fighter IV and Bad Company 2, I'll be checking out some co-op on Splinter Cell: Conviction. I'm looking forward to it, despite the fact that I could not possibly be worse at stealth games (odd considering my all-time favorite series is MGS).

Tim: I hope to continue honing my burgeoning Super Street Fighter IV skills over the weekend. I also finally started playing Dragon Age: Origins, which turns out is really fun. Now I see what everyone was talking about. I'm only about eight hours into that monster, so I hope to take a good chunk out of it this weekend. In addition to that, I hope to make more progress in Mega Man Zero 2 (I finally beat MMZ 1 after eight years) and Pokemon FireRed. I've been playing Pokemon sporadically for weeks now, and I finally made it out of Mt. Moon. I've got a long road ahead, but the game is the perfect portable adventure for my rarely used Gameboy Advance Micro.

That's it for us. What are you playing this weekend? Also, shout out to all the gamer moms out there! If you want to send your mom a special message, do so in the comments section below.
