Bad Company 2 Console Update Parachuting In May 11

Tired of mortar strike spamming? Think the M60 is too overpowered? DICE has heard your pleas, and is addressing several balance issues in a new Battlefield: Bad Company 2 patch for consoles that will launch Tuesday, May 11. Without the need to address game ruining glitches like care package runners and javelin glitches, DICE instead is making subtle refinements to its amazing multiplayer experience. The patch slightly tweaks the damage level of several guns, reduces the lethal blast range of 40mm grenade launchers, and makes it easier to hit those pesky Hind helicopters with tracer darts. As outlined on the Battlefield blog, here's the full list of changes:

Primary Weapon Changes

  • Slightly increases the damage of the UZI at long range.
  • The AKs74u now has more felt recoil when aiming.
  • The G3, VSS, and all semiautomatic rifles now settle slightly faster between shots when aiming.
  • The PKM, Type 88LMG, G3, An94, and 40mm shotgun return to their former glory.
  • Increases the damage of the MG3 to bring it in line with the rest of the LMGs.
  • Fixes a bug where the Saiga12 with slugs would do too much damage at long range.
  • Fixes a bug where the SVU do too little damage at long range.
  • Fixes a bug where M95 rounds would not kill armored targets with headshots.
  • Increases the base range of all automatic and semiautomatic weapons for more consistent close range combat.
  • Slightly increases the damage of semiautomatic rifles over long range for more consistent damage output.
  • Increases the zoomed burst accuracy of LMGs and decreases LMG accuracy when moving to reduce LMG run and gun.
  • Decreases the base damage of the M60 and XM8 LMGs to bring them in line with the other LMG damage values.
  • Decreases the damage of the PKM over long range to balance it with other LMGs.
  • Increases the base damage of the Type88 LMG to balance it with other LMGs.
  • Slightly reduces the base damage of the M16 and G3 to balance the increased range.
  • Slightly increases the damage of the AEK971, F2000, AN94, and AUG over long range to balance them with other assault rifles.
  • The AKs74u now has more felt recoil when aiming.
  • The G3, VSS, and all semi-automatic rifles now settle slightly faster between shots when aiming.
  • Reduces the lethal blast range of the 40mm grenade and M2CG to highlight their role as a secondary weapon against infantry.
  • Slightly reduces the max range of the 40mm shotgun to balance it with other shotguns.
  • Slightly increases the base damage of shotgun rounds and reduced their range to clarify ideal shotgun combat distance.
  • Reduces the base damage of the PP2000 to balance the increased range.

Sidearm Changes

  • Increases the damage of the 9A91 over long range to balance its lower magazine size.
  • Increases the damage and range of the M9, M93 pistols to make them more desirable as a secondary weapon.
  • Increases the range of the MP443 pistol to make it more desirable as a secondary weapon.
  • Increases the damage of the MP412 over long range to balance its low rate of fire.
  • Slightly reduces the rate of fire of the M1911 pistol to balance it with other pistols.
  • Significantly increases the speed of the Tracer Dart projectile to make it more effective against airborne targets.

Specialization Changes

  • Increases the repair and overheat speeds of the Power Tool. Now overheats sooner but repairs the same amount before overheating.
  • Increases the maximum number of Motion Sensors that can be carried from 2 to 3 and increases the speed which new sensors are acquired from ammo boxes.
  • Increased the reload time of the Mortar Strike and reduced the damage it does to heavily armored vehicles.
  • Decreases the range of bolt action sniper and pump shotgun slug rounds when using Magnum Ammo for better kit balance, especially in Hardcore.
  • Slightly increases the health of soldiers in Hardcore for better kit balance.
  • Increases the benefit from the Medkit Heal+ specialization to make it more desirable as a specialization.
  • Decreases the benefit from Vehicle Reload Speed to balance it against other vehicle specializations.
  • Slightly decreases the benefit from accuracy specializations to balance the changes to range and accuracy tweaks.

Vehicle Changes

  • Fixes a bug where the BMD3 takes extra damage to the front armor.
  • Reduces the explosive damage from Attack Helicopter cannons.
  • Increases the damage of AA guns against all targets. The AA gun should be much more effective against infantry on Port Valdez.

  • Well needed, I know PC got it first.  I agree with all of the changes besides the PP-2000, it's already as weak as it is.

    The AA guns needed to be powered up completely.  Now lets see how good the "good pilots" are now.

  • Sounds like I am going to have a lot more fun playing this now. Tracer darts used to suck. Now I might be able to take a heli down.

  • Where's the Mortar Strike change? I can't find it. I like the changes I've read so far, especially the tracer dart stuff and AA guns.

  • It's nice to see that at least one game developer can fix their game by balancing the weapons, not by only downgrading one gun every single time like infinity ward

  • awwh, why take away my favorite little weapon? i love my 870 + slugs + mag :[

    i can understand the neostead, but not the 870, the only shotgun i think that should be nerfed to hell is the NeoStead2000, what with it's infinite range and never decreasing damage when you have slugs and mags on

    Are you joking? The armor already sucked, and this specialization made it suck a bit less.
  • I am glad that DICE is going to respond by fixing things, but the thing is I have NOT noticed any of these problems at all. So now I will be even more unstoppable! :)
  • Speeding up that tracer round is going to help alot!  The only time you can get a *** helicopter is if it is just hovering above you with the miniguns.  I once clipped the rotor of the blackhawk with a RPG-7 while it was flying around the map.  It was fu**ing awesome! No tracer round used.

  • hmm gameplay is really going to change and what about the m1 and thompson glitch m1 counts kills but doesnt count down how many you need till your star it always has no star and say 25

    the thompson the kills needed changes but all its stats say 0 you know kills shots acuracy all say 0 and the kills needed just resets to 25 after you past it which ive done atleast 3 times so I cant get the all bronze stars or the all weapon bronze star insignias....

    I have 5 insignas to go 100 c4 kills 100 anti tank mine kils and 500 vehical sestructs and the 2 glitched bronze star ones I have all awards exept the specact bc I dont drink dr pepper...

  • I'm glad to see that they are adressing these issues, especially making the AA gun stronger. That thing is near useless against infantry.
