The 2010 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records Gamer's Edition is out, and besides detailing a ton of ridiculous game-related feats, the new edition also names the top 50 video game series of all time. Which franchise grabbed the number one spot. You'll never guess...

So, what do you think of the list? Are you surprised that Super Smash Bros. ended up #9, or that FIFA placed higher than Final Fantasy? Maybe your confused that #42 is simply "Tom Clancy's," or that Lego Batman is on the list at all? Unfortunately, you have no one to blame but your fellow gamers: This year Guinness decided the list by polling 13,000 regular gamers, and this is the result. So everybody's happy right?
In addition to the top 50 list, this year's edition also has actual gaming-related records, like the largest gathering of people dressed as video game characters, the youngest professional gamer, and the most kills in Counter-Strike in 12 hours.

Lego Batman should not be on that list. Runescape should not. Horrible list = 3/10
Wow, this list is terrible. How is Halo ahead of franchises such as Final Fantasy, Half-Life, Mario, Zelda etc. From the way the list is put together they must have asked a bunch of fourteen year old boys.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I just can't agree with this list. Lego Batman!? And Chrono Trigger was ONE good game. I have Chrono Cross and I just couldn't get into it. And yes, Final Fantasy should've ranked higher.
Most of these are hardly game series.
I'm surprised that Kingdom Hearts is on there. Also, I'd expect Fallout to rank in at least the top 10.

this list is total balls...who did they ask a twelve year old ooh ooh Halo and uhh rock band or guitar hero and i know i know lego batman. bullcrap this list is crap

This list is a gigantic turd sandwiche. Chrono Trigger #37? Not in this lifetime.
This is absolutely horrific. They don't even understand what a series is.
Lego batman? Grand theft auto should be # 1.
It's certainly an interesting list. The thing I would have liked to see them do is come up with some means of incorporating several different criteria for judging. For instance, polling 13,000 gamers doesn't seem to me like a very reliable means of deciding the quality of a game.
Now, if they could have incorporated, for instance, Metacritic scores, the poll results from industry representatives, the poll results from gamers (and a larger number of them), and maybe something like sales figures; you know, then I would have felt more comfortable with the validity of such a list. But, whatever. I'm pleased enough -- all of my favorite series (serieses?) were on there.
Runescape? *** Runescape!!? People are idiots. World of Warcraft, I could understand, but Runescape is a badly balanced, ugly, dull blecch of MMORPG cliches that barely deserves to be called a game.

Half-Life on 14? who wrote this, again? Halo is great, imo, but not for 1.
OF ALL TIME?! This is garbage i love Halo but it does not deserve ranks over Mario, Zelda, and Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, yes but not that high in the teens, if it counts 1-3 they were good. This is list was made up by idiots.
