Canada Picks Its Favorite Games, Dragon Age: Origins Wins Big

It seems like everyone else has already done year-end video game awards for 2009, but you know how Canada always like to be last at everything. Our neighbors to the north just held their first annual national video game awards last night, May 5th, an event that celebrated games developed in Canada. BioWare walked away the big winners with a game of the year award for Dragon Age: Origins.

If you’re interested in watching it, G4 Canada will air a 30-minute special about the Canadian Videogame Awards on May 16. The list looks fine, except for one thing: how did Prototype end up on there?

  • Sweet! Assassin's Creed 2 is an awesome game. It deserves to win. And some of the others but not Dragon Age origins at all, that doesn't deserve anything.
  • Dragon Age, GOTY?  barf.

  • Wow f*ck this these people have horrible taste in video games.

Uncharted 2 isn't even mentioned in this, yet LEGO Battles or whatever is?! What the hell?!
  • Of ALL the great games to choose from, PROTOTYPE was contender for best console game of the year??!?! Think about that for a sec. Now, additionally, infamous was the clear victor in the open-world super-person genre last year in the eyes of the critics and fanboy arguments alike. Canada is great, but sometimes they really know how to mindf*ck a non-Canadian.

I don't want to stereotype, but how does FIFA 10 get on the GOTY list and not NHL 10?

  • Staff

Canada picks it's favorite games and NHL 10 doesn't win one award?! I smell a fix.

  • really? i cannot get into dragon age to save my life. i've tried time and time again but just cant. its too slow paced, graphics aren't that great, im not a fan of the fighting and the dialogue is just so terrible its funny. maybe its just me but i dont really see why this game gets hyped so much

  • So, Canada likes DA:O, eh?

  • Really y'all? Because I loved Dragon Age: Origins. It was my "WoW killer".

Assassin's Creed II. I wanted to like it, but I never played the original and I had a horrible time with the controls. So much so that I couldn't even get far enough in to experience the scenery or story.

No such problem with DA:O (which, SHOCK, actually had useful info in the manual and instructions that weren't so small on the screen I couldn't read them UBI!), where I have played through twice with different toons.

I don't hate ACII just because it didn't end up being my cup of tea. But DA:O beats it for me, hands down.
  • I question this.

  • How is Prototype in best writing and Game Design?

  • I lol'd as i read this

  • Heh... interesting list. And... about 5 months late yea?

  • psh prototype deserves to win nothing

biggest waste of 60 bucks ever

  • You have to remember, only games that were developed in canada could qualify. I figure they have a long road ahead of them for good games. But I'm glad too. I thought prototype was made in America. But Dead Rising 2, ModNation Racers, and Skate 2 were good games, and they deserve their proper respects.
  • Umm, wheres Uncharted 2?

  • Such an odd list.

  • Wow. Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 2,Left 4 dead 2, And MW2 were not even mentioned. This is just sad.
Not only that Tron, need for speed, modnation racers, and deus ex all beat Reach, Splinter cell, Red dead redemption, and God of war 3 for most promising games?
Let me just ponder this perculiar fact. ?
  • I'm surprised about prototype winning anything but go modnation

  • I think the reason that games like Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 weren't contenders was because they weren't developed in Canada guys....
