Future Incarnation Of Super Mario Crossover Could Have More Characters

We were all blown away by Jay Pavlina's epic Flash-based Super Mario mash-up, but it's only a portion of what the talented programmer had planned for the game.

In an interview with GameXplain, Pavlina reveals that there were a couple more characters he intended to include in the game, which were cut mostly due to time constraints. "...originally there were nine characters, and I’d really like to get these characters in at some point if possible. The other three characters were going to be Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, Luigi, and the SOPHIA battle tank from Blaster Master. I also considered the guy from Bionic Commando."

Pavlina also revealed that he has even more ambitious plans for the future, and that he's not limiting himself to 8-bit games. "Actually, what I released is an unfinished version of the game, or sort of like a demo version. If everyone knew what I was really planning, I think they’d freak out even more. But I just released this version because I was going a bit insane from working on it for so long without anyone playing it, so it was sort of a necessity for me to let people play it and get some feedback. As long as I don’t get sued, you can expect more stuff like this from me."

We're actually surprised Pavlina hasn't been sued yet, but hopefully Nintendo will look at his game as a loving tribute, and not bring in the dreaded lawyers to kill the project. For more on this exceptionally cool independent game, check out Pavlina's homepage.

  • This game was really cool, but it seems to be skating on thin ice in terms of legality.  I hope this dude is allowed to continue his creative designing! Kudos to him.

  • if he doesn't get sued for this he'll get sued for his final product probably... it's just the world we live in, sad as it may be

  • You know Goldeneye-grubbing Nintendo is going to throw its lawyers all over this.  C'mon GI, this stuff's supposed to stay on the DL.

  • I don't care if it's illegal or if Nintendo decides to clamp down on the copyrights. If they do, then spread this game around the internet. Make that final product, and let it loose on the internet, Pavlina. Fight the Powah!
  • It's kinda hard to do this w/o the gamepad.  Especially since all the characters play differently.

  • SOPHIA battle tank from Blaster Master over Shatterhand from Shatterhand? Poppycock! Hayabusa would be nice and I also wouldn't mind seeing the Noid get in on the action too.

One thing is for sure though, this kid is going places! I just hope it's not jail....Q(`~`Q)

  • Ha Sweet, If anything Nintendo should release this on Wii and put advertisments for new Nintendo games in the loading screen of this.

  • If Nintendo gets the lawyers involved over something like this I will lose insane amounts of respect for the company.

  • That was fun even though I died on level 2. Samus sucked! And Zelda's runnig mechanic was alot like a Sonic game. Fast but not acurate. However, no need to b*tch and moan, that game was well made. I hope he doesn't get sued. I love flash games. Have any of you played the flash game Sonny?

  • hahaha sounds cool

  • This is so cool! I hope he doesn't get sued.

  • cool..........i just played it. Its like Super Smash Flash, for those who have played that. Go to notdoppler.com if you have not played it.

  • I think where he might be in trouble is if he starts making money off of his game(s).

  • Yeah, the moment he charges for it the lawsuits will come. I doubt he'd do that though.

  • I think Nintendo will politely ask him to remove the game.  AS long as he doesn't make any profit, I don't think it will become a serious issue.

  • give me sonic or give me mephiles.

  • MORE AWESOMENESS?!?! NO WAY!!!! Looking forward to seeing more.

  • lets go link!

  • Not bad, not bad at all.

  • The game needs more Shatterhand (as Shatterhand said) and QB Eagles. Maybe even a little Fighter Hayabusa.
