Microsoft Game Room Updates On Indefinite Hold

by Matthew Kato on Apr 29, 2010 at 04:30 AM

Microsoft's classic Game Room initiative is already stalling, only a month after its debut. The Xbox Live Arcade program – offering arcade classics in their original state, complete with cabinets and everything – won't be updated for the foreseeable future.

The Game Room launched in late March with 30 arcade titles, and Microsoft promised its first installment of new games in late April. That and any additional updates are in doubt. A tweet by Daniel Maher, Xbox Live's European director was the first to sound the alarm: "The latest batch of Game Room content has also been delayed until further notice," it read. "I'll let you know once a new date is confirmed."

Lest you think that this is just a European problem, 1up posted this comment from Major Nelson, Xbox Live director of programming, "We're working to bring you additional Game Room titles as soon as possible! We appreciate your patience, and we've been thrilled by the community response so far. We want to provide you with the best experience possible, so stay tuned!!"

Recent layoffs at Game Room developer Krome Studios are believed to be holding things up, but this isn't the only setback the program has suffered. Some gamers had problems launching it when it came out, and even the initial list of game available wasn't that impressive. Not to mention the fact that many of the titles have been available – even on Xbox Live – for a while now.

Would anybody miss Game Room if it was gone?
